Parks and Recreation
Pilot

PG Ignacio – Associate Editor

Tonight we are introduced to the world of small town government in the style of “The Office.” Amy Poehler plays the lead role in this new comedy produced by Greg Daniels and Michal Schur. Even though it’s a completely different theme, it may be difficult not to draw comparisons to its hit show predecessor.

So, how did the Pilot episode go? Let’s see…

Have you ever had to hurt a friend, for their own good? In tonight's episode we find Jack and Liz finding new friends in unlikely places. Jenna has another episode of feeling like she's not getting enough attention, but Tracy comes through in the end. John Lithgow makes a cameo after his movie, "Harry and the Hendersons," provides the theme for tonight's episode.

Tonight we find good ol' Liz Lemon joining forces with Kenneth to hunt down her missing cell phone. Jack and Elisa continue to strengthen their love for each other. Tracy makes an appearance on Larry King Live to promote TGS. Pretty simple, right? Not even close.

Tonight we see the continued growth in Jack's relationship with Elisa (Salma Hayek). On the other side, we see Liz's inability to establish any kind of courtship with the male species. Tracy Jordan attempts to live life like he's a frat boy, but who is he fooling? I think you know the answer to that. Another normal story from the gang at TGS.

Best episode of The Office in a long time. I normally save my comments about the episode until the end of the Recap & Review, but I couldn’t help myself today. I have been kind of disappointed in the quality of humor being displayed this season and last season. There have been funny moments, don’t get me wrong, but the funny hasn’t been as consistent like the first few seasons.

Tonight we find humor in the form of a good old fashion duel. Mano-a-mano. Dwight vs. Andy. The prize? The love of Angela. Anyone else want to get in on this? Anyone other than Meredith?

Happy New Year! Our first episode back after the New Year brings us lots of surprises. Jack falls in love. Liz dates a shorter man. Tracy gives a prenup to his wife to sign. Jenna gets the starring role in a Janice Joplin Biopic.

Can of these things really be happening? It's 2009, anything can happen. Okay, well maybe not all of those things.

The gigantic Christmas tree is lit in Rockefeller Center. The ice skating rink is crowded with people. The stores are overflowing with tourists. Most importantly, TGS is airing a live Christmas Special. What an event! Not really. The entire cast and crew are forced to put on the production so Jack can avoid his mother.

Where is the best place to go to see how your friends from high school are doing? Okay, I’m sure most of you are going to say Facebook or MySpace, but to see all of them in one place, in person – you go to your high school reunion. Some people are excited to go back for their reunions. Others dread them and just don’t go. Me? I didn’t go. You know who went to her's? Liz Lemon.

This week’s guest star on 30 Rock is Steve Martin. Martin plays a wealthy man that suffers from agoraphobia. His method of socialization is by way of inviting guests to his mansion for dinner parties. He invites interesting people whom he believes represent different parts of society. Tonight he has invited Jack, from the business world and historical fiction, and Liz, from the entertainment industry. John McEnroe made a cameo, representing two groups of people, art collectors and yellers.

This is my first 30 Rock review of this season, so to quickly recap the previous two episodes: 1) Liz interviewed with an adoption agency and Jack got his job back at NBC; 2) Liz met Oprah on an airplane and she paid a visit to TGS. I’ll have reviews about those episodes post soon, lets get to most recent release. Prior to this season, NBC had been taunting the star-studded guests to make appearances on the show. Tonight’s show had Jennifer Aniston playing Liz and Jenna’s wild and crazy friend from Chicago. You have no idea how crazy she was…and Jack found out the hard way.

Last week I was disappointed with the quality of The Office episode, “Employee Transfer.” Well, I hoped you watched it this week. It may have been the funniest of this season thus far. How did they do it? It was just the right kind of interaction between Jim and Dwight, a tiny piece of Japanese technology, and a twist at the end of the episode. What’s that? You missed it? Well, continue reading to get a recap. How many shoes do you need? Sorry, I wasn’t talking to you…continue reading…

The title of tonight’s episode is pretty self explanatory as to what will happen, especially based on David Wallace’s comment at the end of last week’s episode. Holly is being transferred to the Nashua office because of her relationship with Michael. However, it wasn’t the only story line being told. Jim has lunch with Pam and his brothers in New York to celebrate the engagement. Dwight faces off with Andy in the conference room.

Michael Scott is truly a charitable man. He wanted to contribute proceeds from Casino Night to Afghanis with AIDS. He set up a fundraising run to Support the Rabid. What else can such a generous man think of next? The answer is Crime Aid. The purpose is to raise money to recoup for the lost value of the items stolen from the office. Obviously this results from Michael’s own guilt. How did all this start? It’s funny how everyone else suffers from Michael’s luck. Michael got “lucky” on his third date with Holly. Yes, when I say “lucky” I mean they had sex. According to Holly, Michael got her “twice.” Isn’t that nice?

What is the best way to celebrate the upcoming birth of a new born baby? A baby shower, of course. Well, what is the best way to celebrate the upcoming birth of your ex-girlfriend’s baby, of which she was artificially inseminated? Normal people would say that you don’t do anything. Michael Scott on the other hand forces his office to throw a shower for Jan AND buy her gifts for the baby. The baby he thinks he is connected to and will help raise. He is such a thoughtful and giving person…and at the same time so very naïve and uneducated.

The Scranton Branch of Dunder Mifflin is required to go through Business Ethics Training. Where better to hold this training then the most popular gathering place of the entire office – the conference room. Great things happen in the conference room – Diversity Day, choosing a health plan, Purses for Sale, a boring Christmas Party, getting to know Diwali, a co-worker’s forced coming-out session, holding a pizza delivery boy hostage, conflict resolution, exit interviews, and the ever popular brainstorming sessions.

But on Ethics Day, there is a new facilitator and her name is Holly Flax.

Memo: The Office - "Weight Loss"

Who: The Office
What: “Weight Loss”
When: September 25, 2008

From: PG Ignacio, Sr. Staff Writer pg@thetwocentscorp.com
To: Dunderheads

The Office opened Season 5 with an hour long episode. It was a great set-up re-addressing events from the last season's finale and preparing us for what may come this season. There were some surprises that I didn't expect to happen in the first episode, but I'm glad they did.

The return of Ryan Howard and taking Pam's old job (ironically working directly under Michael) will make for great humor - but does corporate know Michael hired him back?

Oprah to Guest-Star on '30 Rock'

NBC has officially announced that Oprah Winfrey will guest-star in the second episode of this upcoming season's '30 Rock.' The episode is scheduled to air Thursday, November 6 at 9:30 PM ET/PT on NBC.

"Oprah is very funny in the episode and we are beyond grateful to have her. Also, I would like to announce that we are officially best friends," said Tina Fey, creator, executive producer and star of "30 Rock."

TheTwoCents Connection
We are very excited here at TheTwoCents to share this news with our readers because we feel very much apart of all the buzz that led up to Oprah finally making it to '30 Rock.' In late March, we had an opportunity to speak with Tina Fey prior to the return of the show after the writers' strike. We asked Tina who she would like to guest-star on the show. Tina's response:

"I still want Oprah to play my best friend. I want to spend time with Oprah and I don’t know what I need to do to make that happen."

This quote headlined all of the entertainment media outlets for days following. We felt pretty good about ourselves here at TTC. Today, we feel even more accomplished.

NewsRadio - Summer DVD Bookclub

NewsRadio
Summer Review Intro

PG Ignacio - Associate Editor
pg@thetwocentscorp.com

I normally write reviews for The Office and 30 Rock. When the idea came about to recap and review a show that is no longer on the air, I decided to stay consistent. The two shows I write about are comedies about types of work places - an office setting and a sketch comedy show. So I decided on NewsRadio. A comedy about an AM news radio station in New York City, WNYX. How funny can AM radio be? It's not the radio that is funny, it's the people that work there. Even funnier, is the lack of work at the station.

Next week, I'll provide a Recap & Review of Episode 1 of the first season. After that, you can view almost the entire first season at hulu.
