It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia - Recap & Review - "The Nightman Cometh"

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia

Aw, man... end of season already? That’s what happens when you double up on episodes at the beginning. Nice finale here, featuring a terrific, Guffman-esque bargain basement production that makes High School Musical look like…well…a high school musical. Bringing back the Dayman (aa-AA-aa) song (and Dennis’ spandex) was a risk, but the gang definitely brings it to the next level.

OK, so I think I missed a lot of the jokes here, since I’ve never seen Extreme Makeover. Not that it interferes with anything…I mean, come on. The recap and review could be the same every week: They acted like morons, I laughed like hell. The end.

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia - Recap & Review - The Gang Cracks the Liberty Bell

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia
“The Gang Cracks the Liberty Bell”

Original Air Date: Nov 6, 2008

Imagine a bad high school production of 1776, where all the imagination is spent on costumes, the musical director has quit and the director is on crack. Cheap crack. That’s kind of what you get here. Dennis drafts a “Declaration of Dependence”, everyone is convinced Dee is a witch, and Frank uses a skunk pelt as a toupee. And if you look in the music listings a couple years from now and see a band called The Exploding Head of Rickety Cricket, you’ll know this is where it came from.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia
“Sweet Dee Has a Heart Attack”

7:00 PM, on a Monday, and Frank is doing bong hits behind the bar. The guys are so fascinated by him that when Dee starts complaining about feeling weird, and eventually collapses, the only reaction is Dennis asking, “What is her problem?”

It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia - Recap & Review - Dennis Reynolds

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia
“Dennis Reynolds: An Erotic Life”

Original Air Date: Oct 23, 2008

Tom R - TwoCents Staff Writer

Leave it to this show to make incredibly bizarre use of their guest stars. After abusing Fisher Stevens last week, Sinbad and Rob Thomas arrive as mental patients. Something like that. I’m still not sure. Seems like every time I write about this show, it seems like I’m reliving some weird dream. But what an episode…A little more confusing than usual, and that’s saying a lot. Still, they can pull this off better than most shows.

It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia - Recap & Review - Paddie's Pub

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia
“Paddie’s Pub: The Worst Bar in Philadelphia”

Original Air Date: Oct 16, 2008

Tom R - TwoCents Staff Writer
tom@thetwocents.com

4:42 PM, on a Tuesday, and Dennis is installing a new flat-screen TV and a Blu-ray DVD player. Mac finds a review in the paper of Paddie’s, and the gang is shocked by how bad the review is. Mac thinks they should have compared his bouncer skills to Patrick Swayze in Road House, Dee can’t understand why the reviewer is upset that she called him a fag when he ordered a Chardonnay, and Charlie thinks they should have got better marks because, :stabbings are down, man!” Outraged, Dee, Dennis and Charlie storm the office of the paper to demand a new review. Charlie brings a hammer along to be more persuasive.

Yes, you read that right. And yes, that’s really what it’s about. A thirty minute poop joke, give or take. And I can’t even facetiously call it “bathroom humor”, since no bathrooms are involved. So if any of this offends you…what show did you think you were watching? By the way, we’re down to one episode per week with the arrival of “Testees”. Should be back to a full hour very, very soon from the looks of that show. Anyway…

Disclaimer #1: It’s a comedy.
Disclaimer #2: They’re idiots.

Welcome the return of the politically incorrect screwball comedy described as “Seinfeld on crack”. Airing two episodes per night, IASIP covers such hot buttons as hunting, terrorism, cannibals, racist cannibals and the ever-popular family squabbles with no basis in fact.
