Michael Scott is truly a charitable man. He wanted to contribute proceeds from Casino Night to Afghanis with AIDS. He set up a fundraising run to Support the Rabid. What else can such a generous man think of next? The answer is Crime Aid. The purpose is to raise money to recoup for the lost value of the items stolen from the office. Obviously this results from Michael’s own guilt. How did all this start? It’s funny how everyone else suffers from Michael’s luck. Michael got “lucky” on his third date with Holly. Yes, when I say “lucky” I mean they had sex. According to Holly, Michael got her “twice.” Isn’t that nice?

Yes, when I say “lucky” I mean they had sex. According to Holly, Michael got her “twice.” Isn’t that nice?
Michael and Holly were on there way to their third date when Holly decided to lock the camera crew out of the building so they could mess around in the stairwell. Little did Michael know the camera crew could hear everything because Michael turned the volume up on their mics, not down. When they leave the building, they forget to lock it up, allowing thieves to freely walk in and take whatever they would like. Michael and Holly feel guilty, thus Crime Aid. Michael decides to hold an auction of goods and services to recoup the value of the stolen items and the big auction item are front tickets and back stage passes to the Bruce Springsteen Concert.
While all of this is going on, Andy is handing out Save The Date cards for he and Angela’s wedding. Dwight is devastated. Phyllis notices and offers her advice since she knows Dwight and Angela had been fooling around after the engagement. Dwight seeks Phyllis’ counseling only it private and in any way that he can show her he’s not dependent on her. Phyllis’ advises Dwight to give Angela an ultimatum. He does and Angela chooses Andy. Dwight meets with Phyllis again and this time she is blunt with him and tells him its just time to move on. When Dwight realizes how much Phyllis cared to help him out, he bids on her auction item…
So, back to the auction. Well, after very boring and unimpressive items are shown – the security guard’s blues CDs, Holly’s private yoga class, and Kevin’s accountant services – it is time for the Springsteen tickets. However, I must mention two of the more popular items, David Wallace auctioned a weekend at his vacation house in Martha’s Vineyard and Daryl auctioned off a night out at the bar with the warehouse workers, effective immediately following the winning bid. Jim won it for $5. Unfortunately, there were no Springsteen tickets. Surprised? Of course not. But the biggest ticket item came in the form of Phyllis’ hug for auction. After Michael laughed at it and Bob Vance put in the first bid, Dwight came in to win it. David Wallace and Andy joined in for fun, but it ended up a battle between Bob Vance and Dwight. It was apparent that Dwight wanted to give Phyllis a hug for being so kind to him, but $1,000 for a hug was a little too much. Bob Vance won.
There is a Pam/Jim story line in this episode. First of all, Pam got a part-time job at corporate with the help of Michael. Pam left a drunken voicemail on Jim’s office phone. When Jim was at the bar with the guys from the warehouse, Roy shows up. They actually sit next to each other and talk. Jim lets Roy know about the engagement. Roy is okay with it, but makes Jim paranoid about Pam being away at college in New York. Jim starts to drive to New York to check on her, but turns the car around. He doesn’t want to be like Roy.
The end of the episode has somewhat of a cliffhanger. Michael kisses Holly after the auction is over and the camera notices David Wallace looking on. David has a quick talking head and responds in a very disapproving tone that he didn’t know that Michael and Holly are dating. Hmmm, I wonder what next week’s episode title, “Employee Transfer,” has to deal with.
Wow, another great episode. Michael and Holly have consummated their relationship. That’s not great, but it’s funny. Dwight realizes its time to move on. We are teased with more Pam-having-fun-in-New-York-without-Jim tidbits. My jaw dropped quite a few times in shock during the interactions between Michael and Holly. Especially when Michael straight-out asked Holly if they were going to have sex on their third date and the Holly saying that Michael got her “twice.” Wow, I’m still in shock. One of my favorite lines was when Angela looked at Andy when he bid on Phyllis’ hug and Andy said, “I need a hug. Will you give me a hug?” Angela responds, “Not here.” Also, the beginning with Pam’s job at corporate and Michael calling her on the phone and singing the Riccola theme but with her name, “Pam-o-laaa.” That’s classic.
