Top ten highlights from the E.R. series finale:

10. Dr. Benton's son Reese is grown up and doing fine. As many will recall, Reese was born prematurely and is deaf. Benton at first had difficulty dealing with the fact that his son was deaf and looked into surgery to restore his ability to hear.

9. Even in the sad final episode they find time for humor. A projectile vomiting patient, a penile fracture, a man using industrial caulk as Viagra. This has always been a staple of County General and it was nice to see they didn't forget it in the final episode.

Goodbye ER - THANKS!

Saying Goodbye to ER

There are those moments you saw on TV that become engraved on your memory. For me those include sights of the Seinfeld gang on the stand, the Friends leaving their keys on the kitchen counter, the Soprano family sitting in the diner and the infamous black screen of death, Cliff and Claire Huxtable dancing through their living room and out of the set and by the audience, Jim finally telling Pam that he loves her, and others.

Now, ER hasn't had its defining moment of a finale yet, I'm sure there will be something tonight. However, the scene that's stuck in my head from the show is one that has been shared by a few previously on this site.

The moment that Carter realizes he's been stabbed got us all, then, let's add to the scene that he falls and turns his head to see poor Lucy. Was there anyone who didn't catch their breath? I can still feel it in my chest when I picture that scene in my head. Then, the 3rd beat? When Kerry finds them. WOW. What an amazing episode - so powerful.

I admit, I've drifted away from ER in recent years, to me it will always be Ross, Carter, Hathaway, Green, Benton and the gang. The current cast is just the girl from News Radio and Uncle Jesse to me.

However, I look forward to tonight. Our old friends will meet with the new and they will all say goodbye to their home, their history and to us.

Thanks ER! With your exit, NBC closes the door on the 10PM Thursday Night Drama that has included Hill Street Blues and LA Law and goes to Jay Leno. I haven't visited with you in years ER, but I will miss you.

Saying Goodbye to ER

All I need to know in life, I learned from ER.

Robert Romano taught me to beware of Helicopter Revenge. Once you piss one off, it will be out to get you forever.

Kerri Weaver taught me that lesbian adoptions are not simple, especially when you loose your life-partner to a fire and then have to fight her family for the right to keep the baby.

Abby Lockhart taught me that it's possible to go from being a nurse to a doctor, all while having a drinking problem.

Saying Goodbye to ER

Lucy and Carter getting stabbed was one of the best scenes -- so amazing and unexpected. I especially like how they've tied that event back in with Carter's transplant surgery this final season.

But the best part of "ER" was its amazing guest starring roles. Sally Field, Bob Newhart, Red Buttons, Alan Alda, Ed Asner, Djimon Hounsou, Stanley Tucci, Don Cheadle -- the list goes on and on. It was today's "The Love Boat" of dramas.

The ER moment I remember most:
Omar Epps (long before House) was intern Dr. Dennis Gant. Benton (Eriq LaSalle) was constantly on his case, believing that black doctors needed to set the bar higher to be taken seriously. After weeks of abuse, Gant disappeared. When the EMTs brought in a man who had been hit by a train, Benton demanded repeatedly that Gant be paged. When someone finally did page him, the beeper went off...on the table.

Saying Goodbye to ER

I've been with ER from the beginning, and can hardly believe there is only one episode left (this Thursday, April 2nd, on NBC). It has been such a huge part of my life for so long... I even visited the set the last time I was in Los Angeles (see the picture to the left).

Here is quick (and highly abbreviated) list of my reactions to a handful of moments in the series: I cheered when Carol went to Seattle, I called my mom when Lucy and Carter got stabbed, I shrieked when Rocket Romano's arm got chopped off by a helicopter, I cried like a baby when Mark died in Hawaii, I threw a pillow at the TV when Abby cheated on Luka, and I looked away from the screen every time someone projectile-vomited (which was, by my reckoning, every freakin' episode).

"Dear ER: I will miss you. You've made me laugh, cry, scream, and dry heave. No other show has quite achieved every color in my emotional rainbow... I thank you for the ride. Heart, Rachel"

Neela finds out about Brenner's troubled past (i.e. sexual abuse as a child). Neela and Brenner end up breaking up and Neela has to leave for Seattle to pick up a heart for her transplant patient. I guess they can't afford a medical courier.

Dr. Carter: Bandages his arm from his dialysis. We find out why he’s back at County. He lost a kidney back when he got stabbed and now he’s contracted some disease in Darfur that attacked his one remaining kidney. Since they don’t have kidneys anywhere in Africa, or any other place besides Chicago for that matter, he’s come back home to get on the donor list. There’s a funny exchange between Carter and Banfield where he asks for one of her kidneys, but he’s just kidding. Carter is a little rusty and out of date with the practicing medicine in a modern E.R.

ER – Begs the Question – "The High Holiday"

It's Christmas in Chicago. Which can only mean one thing: some sort of weird, birth-related case at County General. This years set of wide-eyed parents were very topical - illegal immigrants.

But one of the best parts of the episode (and most Christmas episodes of ER)? The party. Yes, there was random drunkenness, old friend appearences (Hiya, Jerry!), awkward flirtations, and a handful of high employees (thank you, Mrs. Garrett, for the happy brownies!).

Which begs the questions...

ER – Begs the Question – "Age of Innocence"

In this week’s episode of ER, there was some seriously gross meatball surgery going on. What’s worse? It involved an eyeball. Nasty.

Which begs the question… As we count down the final episodes of the show, what it the grossest thing you have seen on ER? I can’t handle all of the random projectile vomiting, myself, but that is understandable. How about the butcher knife in that guy's head? Or Romano getting his arm cut off by the helicopter?

We all saw this coming from a mile away. It was only a matter of time, really. All the clues were there: Haleh thought she recognized her, she always acted weird around Trauma One, whenever someone referenced “family” she cringed and changed the subject. So when Dr. Banfield became involved in a rescue of a nearly-drowned toddler and the flashbacks came rolling in, I wasn’t surprised. What did surprise me, however, was the fun I had as a fan of ER seeing County General, circa 2002, with it’s green and yellow walls and very familiar and missed faces.

Dr. Greene Returns to the ER

On tonight's special episode of ER, "Heal Thyself," Dr. Banfield has a flashback to her first visit to County General - when her son was treated by Dr. Mark Greene. Anthony Edwards talks about the experience of returning to the show in the video clip below. Warning: Spoiler Alert!

In one of the most heart-wrenching story arcs in ER history, we watched as Dr. Mark Greene came to terms with his terminal cancer and passed away in the place of his birth with his wife and children at his side.

The story of ER was his story, and even though he entrusted the care of the ER to Dr. Carter when he left, the echoes of Dr. Greene’s humanity still ring through the halls of County General.

This Thursday, November 13th, Golden Globe winner and multiple Emmy Nominee Anthony Edwards will reprise his role of Dr. Greene in a special flashback episode titled "Heal Thyself." Recently, Edwards took some time to answer questions about the episode and share his TwoCents with readers...

ER - "Oh, Brother" - Begs the Question

Last night's episode of ER followed Chaz, Greg's brother, through his first day on the job as a first-year med student. With an EMT background and a familiarity of the ER personnel, Chaz was able to jump right in and get to work... at first. After a string of bad decisions (mostly made by Archie), Chaz has the worst first day in ER history, including (but not limited to) the squishing a patient in the MRI machine, almost killing a patient with a misplaced chest tube, and getting a severe tounge-lashing from the new Chief. Which begs the question... What was your worst first day? Of school, of work, whatever. Leave you painful story in the comments section and we can all commiserate together!

ER - "Haunted" - Begs the Question...

On this week's episode of ER, we saw all the results of horrible Halloween nights: candy puke, inappropriate costumes, fights, drunk, scary Frankenstein Monsters, and refusals to share candy. All this begs the question...
