Family Guy
American Dad

Original Air Date: October 8, 2007

Jeff L - TwoCents Staff Writer

Family Guy “Believe It or Not, Joe’s Walking on Air”
The guys are hanging out at the Drunken Clam doing manly stuff until the ladies show up for their girl’s night out. They start dancing and take over the bar. It’s a bigger disaster than Jack Black’s last movie The Unconventional Butler. The ladies say they might make the Clam their regular hang-out spot and Peter pulls out a gun and shoots himself, then wakes up and says he was having a Scrubs fantasy moment. Quagmire says it’s the best show you’re not watching, but Cleveland doesn’t like shows that cut away from the plot of the story for some bullcrap. Cut to Hilter on a unicycle juggling fish.
Six weeks and $8,000 later, Quahog Men’s Club is born in Peter’s yard in a cool fort that Peter used an entire wall from his house to build. They sit around talking about manly stuff and drinking beer. Later the Quahog Man Club inaugural ball is a huge success. Fred Flintstone and Barney Rubble even make it to the party. Stewie wants some Anacin, but Brain doesn’t think they even make it anymore.
Inside the house, the ladies think about crashing the party at the Men’s club. The women join the party and start dancing. Bonnie sits next to Joe and Joe tells her she should dance too. He’s depressed because he feels like he’s holding Bonnie back from having fun.
The next day Joe is feeling worse and wishes he could walk so Bonnie wouldn’t have to spend her life taking care of him in his wheelchair. He puts on his hand shoes and takes out the garbage walking on his hands, for some reason. Joe and Peter head to the hospital to check out the leg transplant. The doctor sounds like Peter’s father-in-law and they have a funny scene talking back and forth about how they sound exactly the same. Joe goes under the knife and the doctor pops in the How To video hosted by Jamie Farr.
Later, Joe walks about of the operating room and he’s still got that new leg smell. Joe wants to walk out but the doctors make him leave the hospital in a wheelchair. Back home Joe and Bonnie rekindle their romantic life while the other guys hang out at the bar watching a promo for the new Fox reality show Who Wants to Marry Corky. Joe shows up and takes the guys rock climbing where Spiderman has to save Cleveland. Cut to the Joe-bra Khan karate dojo. Joe kicks the guys asses, literally. There IS no mercy in that dojo. Then there’s a big dance number.
The guys decide they can’t hang out with Joe anymore because they are lazy and his new legs are causing him to run wild, but Joe doesn’t like hanging out with them anymore either, since they are all too lazy so he gets a similar group of new friends who are more active. The guys start auditioning for a replacement for Joe but the candidates make them realize that they miss Joe. They go to his house where Joe is moving out on Bonnie. The guys decide they have to “re-cripple” Joe. Peter, Cleveland and Quagmire all attack him with a pipe, a baseball bat and a golf club, but Joe defends himself and beats the men to a bloody pulp, but Bonnie shows up and shoots Joe five or six times until he takes the gun from her because she’s a terrible shot and he shoots himself in the spine.
Later, things are back to normal at the Clam and Joe’s back in his wheelchair. The gang’s all back to normal…except they are all in bandages from the beating Joe put on them. 3.5 out of 5 stars.

American Dad “Meter Made”
It’s a Goodfellas riff with Stan flashing back to his glory days of 12 days ago when he was a meter maid. Flashback to 12 days ago, Hayley wants to model nude for an art class and the Smith house is being used as a dog poop area on the 16th annual Parade of Homes.
Stan and Francine go out for a nice meal, but they can’t get a table because Stan isn’t as important as the used car salesman who gets the best table in the joint. Across town Hayley drops her towel for the art class, but Roger has snuck into the class and paints her nude. Later that night, Stan overhears Francine telling her sister that she wishes she was married to someone who was a big shot. Stan gets a ticket from a meter maid and he beats the man until he’s arrested and made to be a meter maid himself for two weeks of community service.
Everyone makes fun of Stan’s meter maid uniform and he’s sad that he can’t work at the CIA while he’s doing his community service. Upstairs, Roger has a naked painting of Hayley and she’s mad. Stan gets his meter maid training from a guy who’s using his meter maid status to get favors all over town. Stan takes to the blackmail and uses his newfound status to get the Smith house in the Parade of Homes. Turns out the neighbors all had their houses painted by a Jamaican celebrity house painter, but the Smith’s don’t have money for that so Stan tries blackmail, but the Jamaican can’t be blackmailed since he has diplomatic immunity.
Steve has taken a fancy to the naked painting, but since the face is cut off he doesn’t realize that it’s his sister. Both he and Hayley try to buy the painting from Roger who decides to hold an auction. Across town, Stan is emptying parking meters when he realizes that he can steal the money to pay for the celebrity house painting. The Smiths go on a crazy spending spree with quarters.
The art auction goes crazy and Francine buys the painting for $5,000 to hang in the dining room for the Parade of Homes. Forest Whitaker has a funny cameo as a parking internal affairs officer who may or may not be onto Stan’s embezzlement. He rushes home to destroy all the things they’ve bought while people are at their open house. Stan and Francine try to flush all the change and Roger gets angry that they destroyed the painting of Hayley. Steve finds out that the painting was Hayley and is horrified that he was attracted to her in the painting and Roger tells him to hill himself. Hayley beats up Roger.
The internal affairs officer shows up at the house, but it turns out that he’s just there to drop off the paper work about Stan’s community service being complete. He goes back to his boring life at the CIA where he’s carrying a guy in the trunk of his car to use for a retina scan in some third world country. He’s back to being just a regular, boring old schmuck. 3 stars out of 5.

"FOX Sunday Animation Block" Recap & Review

The Simpsons
King of the Hill
Family Guy
American Dad

Original Air Date: September 30, 2007

Jeff L. - TwoCents Staff Writer

The Homer of Seville:
The Simpsons beings this week with a nod to Fox owner Rupert Murdoch’s “Wall Street Journal” being better than ever on Bart’s chalkboard. The family races from church to find a restaurant with a short line but end up crashing a catered funeral. Homer ends up being a pallbearer and falls into the open grave, hurting his back. At the hospital he finds out that laying on his back his organs align perfectly to give him a perfect operatic singing voice. Homer serenades the hospital where Mr. Burns overhears his singing and offers him the lead in La Bohéme which he performs while lying on his back. Homer contributes to the culture of Springfield which he says makes up for him showing up drunk to the father/daughter dance (which isn’t until next week). “Sorry, Lisa. You can’t change the future.” Placido Domingo praises Homer’s singing and Lenny and Carl go all Entourage. Homer even lands himself a stalker (Maya Rudolph) who ends up trying to kill him after he spurns her advances. The action culminates at Homer’s The Barber of Seville where his stalker plays maestro and tries to shoot Homer with a poison dart. Marge saves the day with little help from the Springfield police and their snipers and his stalker winds up in the hospital. Homer retires from opera to spend time on his back painting the roof of the house to look like the Sistine Chapel. 3 out of 5 stars.

Bobby Rae:
King of Hill finds Bobby enjoying the sugar high he gets from the six new soda machines at Tom Landry Middle School. It seems the teachers are using the machines to raise money for an all inclusive trip to Cancun. Bobby realizes that carbonated beverages are the closest thing he has to a girlfriend and seeks advice from Hank. Hank tells him that if he wants to find a date he needs to talk to girls and find out what they are interested in. There are some funny moments in the lunch room, where a rejected Bobby and his root beer end up sitting with the outcast kids. One of the kids tells Bobby that the high fructose corn syrup he’s drinking could be contributing to his not getting a date. He demands that the soda machines be removed. His protest is seen by a member of the school board, who makes the teachers stop selling soft drinks. The school board aren’t the only ones taking an interest in Bobby’s soda pop protest. He meets Olivia, a young journalist, who writes Bobby up as “The Boy Who Cares.” The teachers replace the vending machines with a news ticker that only advertises energy bars, which Bobby agrees to protest in order to land a date with Olivia. The teachers refuse to back down and Bobby leads a walk-out. The students look to Bobby for leadership, but he doesn’t know what to do. He leads them to Strickland Propane where Hank scares the kids into going back to school. Olivia runs off with one of the other kids because Bobby doesn’t have any passion. 2.5 out of 5 stars.

Moving Out (Brian’s Song):
The show begins with Brian and Jillian (Drew Barrymore) and Stewie watching television. Brian ends up canceling a date to see Disney on Ice with Jillian, by pushing her off on Peter. Meg lands a job at the Quahog Mini Mart. Brian is enjoying his time away from the smothering Jillian and working on his novel “Faster than the Speed of Love” which according to Lois is just a rip off of Iron Eagle and it’s three sequels. Peter convinces Brain that he’s going to lose Jillian unless he takes the next step and moves in with her. He moves in with her and brings Stewie along to pay the bills since he took over Chris’ paper route since Chris has joined Meg working at the Mini-Mart. Jillian finds out that Brian can’t pay the bills and breaks up with him. Meg is having to do all the hard work at the store while Chris and the boss play Mr. Skin and she gets fired. Stewie tries to cheer Brian up with a party where Brian realizes that he wants to win back Jillian, but it’s too late. She’s moved in with Adam West. 3 out of 5 stars.

Vacation Goo:
Vacation Goo refers to the green goop in the CIA articial memory chambers that Stan uses every year for the Smith family “Vacation.” It turns out that all the happy vacation memories the family enjoys are all fake. Stan drugs them and watches college football while the family is on vacation. Francine demands a real vacation. Meanwhile, Roger the Alien is trying to become the greatest actor of all time, but cannot cry on cue. That doesn’t stop him from landing a part on a soap opera ala Tootsie. The family is enjoying their ski vacation until they realize that Steve has plopped the family into the goo to enjoy is own vacation away from the family. The men in this family can’t be trusted to plan a vacation so Francine and Haley plan a trip to Italy. This time it’s Haley who drugs the family and puts them in the memory chambers so she can enjoy some kinky alone time with Jeff. The family wakes up and Francine demands a real vacation. The Smiths embark on a cruise after convincing Francine that this time it’s for real. Stan shows her the memory chambers being returned to the CIA and they set sail for real. The cruise is too good to be real to Francine who thinks she MUST be back in the memory chamber goo and jumps off the cruise ship to try to prove it’s fake. Turns out it’s real and the family board a life boat along with Becky from the cruise ship to search for Francine. They find her and end up shipwrecked and hungry on an island where the locals are hunting them for sport. After being at sea for four days and trapped in a cave-in (which kills Becky) the Smiths become cannibals only to find out that the hunt was actually just Jimmy Buffet’s Most Dangerous Game Family Retreat and the hunters were just using paintballs. Meanwhile Roger quits the soap opera and through his trials and tribulations as a dancer/prostitute learns to cry on cue. When the Smiths return home they vow to never vacation for real again. As the show ends we see them hot air ballooning over the Grand Canyon drinking champagne and quick cut back the Smith family basement where they are all really in the goo. 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Some Animated Picks for Sunday's Football Games!

As FOX’s new Sunday-night lineup kicks off Sept. 23 with the 19th season premiere of THE SIMPSONS (8:00-8:30 PM ET/PT), a football-themed episode of KING OF THE HILL (8:30-9:00 PM ET/PT) and a special “Star Wars” episode of FAMILY GUY (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), followed by the season premiere of AMERICAN DAD on Sunday, Sept. 30 (9:30-10:00 PM ET/PT), our quaterbacks of comedy – Homer Simpson, Hank Hill, Peter Griffin and Stan Smith – throw some Hail Marys with their “picks” for this Sunday’s NFL games.

Buffalo Bills vs. New England Patriots:
Peter Griffin (FAMILY GUY): Well, first of all, New England is just freakin’ sweet. They may not lose a game the entire year. Plus, the Pats got spy cameras watchin’ you. Just like the government. “The Patriot Act” – that was all Belichick’s idea. My pick: New England.

Arizona Cardinals vs. Baltimore Ravens:
Homer Simpson (THE SIMPSONS): Because it’s the Cardinals versus the Ravens, I’m passing this one off to our family’s bird-nerd, Lisa Simpson.
Lisa Simpson: It’s called an ornithologist.
Homer Simpson: Thanks for nothing. Take the Ravens.

Indianapolis Colts vs. Houston Texans:
Stan Smith (AMERICAN DAD): You know, my first gun was a Colt 45. Man, I shot TONS of people with that thing! My pick: Indianapolis Colts.

Dallas Cowboys vs. Chicago Bears:
Hank Hill (KING OF THE HILL): Who's going to win the Cowboys/Bears game? Frankly I'm a little insulted you'd even ask me that question. The Cowboys are America's team. So I am going to go with America. My pick: Dallas Cowboys.
Homer Simpson: Let’s see... If the show “Dallas” fought the band Chicago, who would win? Well, Bobby Ewing’s got a cannon for an arm, but you’re never going to get a passing game going with Peter Cetera coming on the blitz. It all comes down to special teams. I see Sue Ellen kicking a last-second field goal to give Dallas the win. But this game is up against THE SIMPSONS season premiere, starring Lionel Richie and Stephen Colbert, so watch that instead.

New York Giants vs. Washington Redskins:
Homer Simpson: I pick the Giants because their backup quarterback, Jared Lorenzen, like myself is a man of great weight. You’re sending an important message to today’s kids – obesity is not a problem in America.

Denver Broncos vs. Jacksonville Jaguars:
Stan Smith: Ah, Denver, the Mile High City. Wait, does that mean it's actually a mile high? So if Franny and I, you know (whistling), in Denver ... would that, like ... would that put us into the Mile High Club? My pick: Denver Broncos.

San Francisco 49ers vs. Pittsburgh Steelers:
Peter Griffin: The hometown fans are going to be pretty intense for Pittsburgh. They got nothing else to live for. The only chance for San Fran is if they can get Barry Bonds to play quarterback. Good luck finding a helmet to fit over that huge melon he calls a head. My pick: Pittsburgh Steelers.

Detroit Lions vs. Philadelphia Eagles:
Homer Simpson: You’re a winner for not living in either of these cities. Unless you do, in which case I pick the city that is home to the Liberty Bell – Detroit. They stole it when Philadelphia wasn’t looking.

Cincinnati Bengals vs. Seattle Seahawks:
Stan Smith: You gotta go with the team you know the best. I got to know the Bengals pretty well by arresting nine of them … Those guys are characters! My pick: Cincinnati Bengals.

Cleveland Browns vs. Oakland Raiders:
Hank Hill: Cleveland at Oakland? Well, neither of them are the Cowboys – and, well, Oakland is in California, so I'm going to have to go with Browns. My pick: Cleveland Browns.

San Diego Chargers vs. Green Bay Packers:
Homer Simpson: Brett Favre, I respect you enormously, but sir, it’s time to retire. Just open a steakhouse called Brett’s Place and put your old football junk in it. In the first year, go by once or twice a week, then never go again. My pick? Brett’s Place. For the best onion rings in the entire Wisconsin thumb.

Carolina Panthers vs. Atlanta Falcons:
Hank Hill: I still think of the Panthers as a new team. And I generally don't like things that are new. And since the Panthers knocked the Cowboys out of the playoffs twice, I'll take the Falcons out of spite. My pick: Atlanta Falcons.

Miami Dolphins vs. New York Jets:
Homer Simpson: Both of these cities are awesome places to visit. Why do they even need football? However, I do like how the dolphin on the Miami helmet wears a helmet. That’s smart. Safety first. Miami by six.

St. Louis Rams vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers:
Peter Griffin: Well, the Rams got Mark Bulger and he’s tough to stop. Hehehe, bulge. My pick: St. Louis Rams.

Minnesota Vikings vs. Kansas City Chiefs:
Homer Simpson: I think Kansas City will be cooking up a tasty victory against the ... oh, “Chiefs.” I thought it said “Chefs.” Anyway, take Kansas City. Because the Vikings with their wide stance and tapping toes will never get out of the Minneapolis Airport men’s room.
