The Smiths are sitting down for a nice family dinner. Stan loves being king of the castle. Just as they are about to eat the doorbell rings and it’s Francine’s adoptive parents. She was raised by a Chinese couple. They are staying the weekend on their way to see all the world’s largest objects.
Francine’s parents take over the entire house, hang dead ducks in the window and give Steve a bunch of fireworks. Steve is too scared to set any of them off but Stan lights The English Patient firework and it slowly burns on the floor. Francine’s dad explains that it will look beautiful, but it takes a very long time until the unsatisfying payoff at the end.
Stan wants Francine’s parents out, but Francine tells Stan he has to respect her parents. Stan doesn’t want to because they’re not her “real” parents since she was adopted. Francine reminds Stan that they raised her with the same love they showed their biological daughter Gwen. Just hearing her name drives Stan wild with passion. He’s got a thing for Francine’s sister.
Over at the park Steve and his posse are too chicken to light any of the real fireworks so they are playing with sparklers when the hot, popular girl from their class shows up and agrees to let Steve touch her boob if he’ll light off some fireworks under his friends.
Francine’s parents have driven Stan over the edge. He vows not to rest until he finds his “birth in-laws.” Stan sets Roger on fire to cause a diversion at the adoption agency while he looks up Francine’s real parents. They live in Hilton Head, South Carolina. Roger burns and goes out over and over like novelty birthday candle while Stan calls tech support to fix the printer he’s trying to use.
None of Steve’s friends will let him blow them up with firecrackers until Roger comes home and explains that he’s fire proof. He agrees to dress up and let Steve blow him up in order to get some boob.
Stan finds Francine’s biological parents in Hilton Head and they are rich and have a huge mansion. Stan bonds with them and does a whole musical number about how much he hates his old in-laws and loves his biological in-laws. They love Stan but they don’t think it’s right to have a relationship with him and not meet the daughter they had to give up. Francine is against the idea. She loves her adoptive parents no matter what.
Steve decides to be really reckless and use “The Finger Blaster” to set off all the fireworks under Roger but of course with a name like that he loses his thumb in the explosion.
Stan finds Francine’s adoptive parent’s will and shows her that they are leaving everything to their biological daughter and nothing to Francine. She gets angry and agrees to meet her real parents.
Her real parents show up but Francine is getting her hair done. They tell Stan the story of why that had to give Francine away. They weren’t allowed to take a baby in first class on their flight to France and they refused to fly coach. So they just handed the baby to the flight attendant and left. Stan realizes what rich jerks they are just as the English Patient finally goes off igniting the rest of the fireworks and the oil from the dead ducks hanging in the window. Francine’s parents call their lawyer and don’t want to be liable for damages so they wait outside while Stan is trapped under the burning rubble.
The fire department shows up, but they are too awed by the fireworks to dowse the fire. Roger dumps Steve off with the ambulance driver and a note to re-attach his severed thumb. Stan is begging for Francine’s dad to come and save him and he does, but not her real dad – her adoptive dad rescues Stan from the fire. They have a heart-to-heart and he tells Stan that the reason Francine doesn’t get anything in the will is because she is the smart one and she doesn’t need their help. He also tells Stan that they don’t have to worry about Francine because she married well.
Steve finally gets that boob he was after, but he can’t feel anything since his had was shot full of anesthesia.
Francine shows up and wants to meet her real parents but Stan won’t point them out even with their limo full of cash and ponies. He points to Francine’s adoptive parents and tells her that they are her real parents.
Funny, touching episode. 4 out of 5 stars.
