    The Simpsons
"I Don’t Wanna Know Why the Caged Bird Sings"

Homer gets into trouble for forgetting about Lisa’s Student of the Millennium award ceremony at the school. He wakes up early and shows up for the even almost two hours early. Marge, on the other hand, doesn’t show up at all. When Homer calls to gloat, he finds out Marge is being held hostage at the bank.

Marge befriends Dwight the bank robber (Steve Buscemi, The Sopranos) after his partner kills old Gill the new bank guard on his first day of work and takes off before the police can get to the crime scene of the Shooty/Stealy as Chief Wiggum refers to it. Marge agrees to come visit Dwight in jail if he surrenders to police, which he does.

Marge finds every excuse in the book not to visit Dwight, but he holds out hope since his real mother abandoned him at an amusement park when he was a child. Dwight gets tired of waiting and decides to take his revenge on Marge. He breaks out of jail and kidnaps Marge again. This time he’s got a plan. He takes her to Plaster Mountain Theme Park, the same park where he was abandoned as a child.

The police are alerted and an amusement park ride goes out of control with Chief Wiggum and Marge’s lives hanging in the balance, but Dwight sacrifices himself to save them both by throwing himself into the gears of the ride. He’s nearly killed, but survives and goes back to jail where Marge visits him just like she promised. 2.5 out of 5 stars.

    King of the Hill
    "Four Wave Intersection"

Arlen is in the midst of a heatwave. Boomhauer cuts his jeans into shorts and it’s officially summer. Some young girls walk by and laugh at Boomhauer’s shorts triggering an existential crisis.

Bobby and Joseph see a commercial for The Big Ka-Tube-Ah water park and go all Bart and Lisa Simpson (Dad, can we go to Mount Splashmore? Dad, can we go to Mount Splashmore? Dad can we go to Mount Splashmore?) on Hank who eventually relents and buys the boys summer passes to the park.

Across town Bill’s got a flat tire and calls Hank to rescue him on the side of the road, but Hank is busy taking the kids to the water park. He waits beside the road until he can no longer take the heat and tries to flag down a passing car, but they all just think he’s waving so they wave back.

Things aren’t cool at The Big Ka-Tube-Ah when Bobby, Connie and Joseph aren’t allowed on the rides by some of the bigger kids and their surfer buddy Bodie who runs the surfing wave ride.

Hank changes Bill’s tire, but he’s sets up on the roadside with a lawn chair and continues waving to passersby. Meanwhile Boomhauer is feeling his age around town and is growing more and more depressed. Hank heads over to the water park to discuss the kids’ problems with the manager, but he’s tight with Bodie and nothing gets done about it.
The kids come home complaining again and find out Boomhauer used to be a surfer back in his younger days in Corpus Christi. He agrees to talk surfer to surfer with Bodie while Bill is nearing sun stroke out waving to cars on the highway. He’s been dubbed the Heat Waver by a local radio station.

Boomhauer doesn’t have much luck with Bodie though since he rides a long board and his board won’t fly on the wave ride and Hank has to rescue Bill before he cooks himself. Boomhauer is depressed and Bill wants to go back out on the highway but Hank blocks his way and won’t let him.

Hank has finally had it with the punks at the water park and vows to take Bobby down there the next day for some serious ass kicking. Boomhauer makes his way to Corpus Christie were a young surfer teaches him how to ride the shorter surfboards that today’s surfers are all using. Hank shows up at the park and he’s about to kick everyone’s ass when Boomhauer shows up and does the ass kicking for him with his new short surfboard. Elsewhere, Bill hears the deejays talking about how it must be too hot outside for even the Heat Waver, because he’s given up his vigilant duty waving to people on the highway. He slathers on some sunblock and heads back out to give some hope to Arlen afterall. 3 out of 5 stars.

    American Dad
    "Dope and Faith"

The Smiths are at a funeral where their bidding adieu to Walter Ellis, and raffling off all his worldly possessions. Stan wins the man’s paddleboat thanks to his prayers. Hayley makes some remarks about religion and Stan says she should be more like Steve who’s reading the bible throughout the service, but it’s actually Harry Potter he’s reading.

The next day Stan wants to take Francine out on his new paddleboat, but she’s busy and so is everyone else. Stan doesn’t have any other friends to go with him so he shows up at his boss’ house, but he pretends to not be home even though Stan can see him through the glass doors of his fancy mansion.

Roger and Steve are at the carnival and a fortuneteller tells Steve he is special. Steve gloats and tells Roger he’s boring and regular. Roger vows to get even. Stan is in church again. This time he’s praying for a friend and God provides. Brett Morris (Jay Thomas, Cheers) notices Stan’s paddleboat and stops in the church to find the owner. The two men bond while riding the boat and it turns out they see eye to eye on every issue imaginable, except religion. Brett is an atheist and Stan vows to make him believe in God.

That night, Roger begins his elaborate revenge plot by throwing a stuffed owl through Steven’s bedroom window with an invitation for Hogwarts American campus. Roger takes Steve to what he thinks is a crack house where Steve will be scared off, but Steve sees the run-down house as being under a spell and the meth lab inside as a potions class better than any even Severus Snape could conduct.

Stan takes Brett around town trying to convince him there is a God, but Brett disagrees and Stan decides the only way he’ll turn to God is if his life is ruined and he’s got nowhere else to turn. Stan blows up his house, spreads bird flu at the restaurant he runs and sends an energy beam into his wife’s brain turning her into a lesbian who leaves him and takes his kids. Brett does hit rock bottom….or at least a car at the bottom of the building he jumps off.

Steve comes home from “Hogwarts” with a load of muggle money his “teachers” have given him for his excellence in “potion” making, but Steve has also taken home some of the supplies to practice his potion-making at home. Steve doesn’t think Professor Ice Pick will mind, but Roger freaks out when he sees the drugs. The teachers show up to kill Steve and they beat him up and break his glasses. Roger tells Steve they are death eaters and Steve tries to cast spells on them with a chopstick while Roger accidentally ingests some of the drugs and goes on a killing spree killing all the drug dealers but one. Steve finally recovers and finds his glasses just as Roger runs out of bullets. He casts the wash your hands in Spanish spell that professor Ice Pick taught him and a bathtub crashes through the ceiling killing the last death eater/drug dealer. Roger tells Steve he’s going to show him how to make an extra special potion with some sulfuric acid and a hack saw.

Stan is visiting Brett in the hospital and prays that his only friend will make a full recovery. He promises that if Brett makes it, he will accept him no matter what he believes. Brett wakes up and now he does believe in God, because he met God right before he was sent to hell for attempting suicide. Turns out he’s made a deal with the devil to return to earth and spread the word about the glory of Satan. Stan remembers his promise to accept him no matter what and the two men head off to play some golf, drink some beets and watch some football. 3 out of 5 stars.
