This quote finishes off this episode, aptly named ‘The Final Hour’. We embark on the last episode of the longest season of Deadliest Catch. And it doesn’t disappoint.

The Opie season is winding down for the fleet, but the ice is ramping up on the vessels. Fishing on the Bering Sea is hard enough isn’t it?

The Wizard –

After a bad string, Captain Keith has pulled up stakes and started fishing elsewhere. And it has paid off greatly with some good numbers. Greenhorn Cooper is toiling away trying to impress his crewmates and tells us that this job is not for the weak hearted. Later they have to start breaking away the heavy ice pack. Monte admits that this is the worst part of their job. Cooper doesn’t seem to mind, though. He tells us that he thinks it’s fun. Deckhand Lynn thinks he might be crazy. The tanks are filling quickly and they’re getting close to filling their quota. Greenhorn Lynn is starting to pick on Cooper. This may be because Cooper is doing so well and he’s concerned about how he looks to the crew now. Keith acknowledges that the two men are battling, but tells us that if fists start flying then bags will start packing. He has no tolerance for fighting on the Wizard.

We’re 4 weeks into Opie season now and the crew is dealing with the aftermath of the hurricane from the night before. And we sit side by side with a captain and his battle to fight an injury and it’s affecting his health. Is nothing easy on the Bering Sea?

The Northwestern

Edgar and the crew are going around the deck seeing what damage that the storm caused. They notice that they’ve lost some deck boards and even a 1000 pound pot had moved. Captain Sig tells us that they rolled at almost 90 degrees at one point. Everything inside that wasn’t attached is now on the floor.

We’re back in the middle of Opilio crab season on the Bering Sea. We have a rescue mission to catch up with, some well needed repairs and a Captain blows up.

Coast Guard Copter 6035

When last we left the latest Coast Guard rescue mission, they were flying into terrible head winds with low gas and a fisherman having seizures. They were flying into Cold Bay, which was much further than St Paul. Since the concern was so great with the fuel situation, they decide to turn around the bird from it’s present course and head out to St Paul. They get back safely, as does the patient. Ignoring the order to go to Cold Bay may have saved their lives.

With only 3 days left of King Crab season, the fleet is running to make their quotas while the greenhorns are looking to prove their worth for the upcoming Opilio season. And we see our first Deadliest Catch mutiny.

This episode begins unusually with a quick 3-minute update on the fleet. The greenhorns on each vessel express interest in being picked up again for the Opilio season. And they recap the bets that the captain’s made in the first episode. The two strongest vessels this season are the Time Bandit and the Wizard. Time will tell who will win the wager.

“Fishing vessel Wizard, 1200 nautical miles from Dutch Harbor”.

The beginning of the 4th season of the Discovery Channel’s ‘Deadliest Catch’ starts off strong. In the form of a prologue, you are immediately brought onboard Captain Keith Colburn’s vessel (run by his brother Monte) in the middle of a bad storm, with the crew running rampantly trying to batten down the hatches. (And hopefully repair the leaks that have occurred in the hull). Before you’re able to catch your breath, on comes Bon Jovi and your Captains for the season. Welcome back to the Bering Sea.
