If there is a word to describe this episode, it has to be "oversimplification." Simplifying in any of its forms is not the specialty of the Darlings, but if you think about it, it'll make sense. As such extreme personalities themselves, maybe the Darlings can only imagine things in the extreme. Black and white, right and wrong; even if they turn the world into absolutes, they are themselves some very complicated shades of grey.

I have the sneaking feeling that if Dirty Sexy Money were fated to carry on into many more seasons, we would be subjected to one failed Karen wedding per season. Fortunately or unfortunately, that won't be happen, but the show is certainly going for going out with a bang and one last hurrah. Or maybe that's one last "Holy crap." In the words of Mel Brooks, either way we're going to have a lot of fun!

We open exactly where everyone wants to start their day, in the shower with Simon and Karen. We're three minutes in and I already need to scrub my brain because Karen thinks the nozzles are useful. That sets the tone for the brain-breaking that we are in for this hour.

Last week's episode tied up some things and left us waiting for a shoe to drop on the others. This week, I was not disappointed (okay, on one count I was disappointed) and there are even more shoes up in the air. Some are going to hit the ground and make a glorious thud when they do.

Election day with the Darlings. You only wish that the most exciting part of your election day wasn't going to be standing in line at the polling place and waiting for your turn to step behind the curtain. Or, considering the things that happen to the Darlings on election day, maybe you don't. And that makes you, sir or madam, a sensible human being.

The abandonment issues exhibited by Nick manifest in a need to be loved -- and thus is his attraction to the Darlings. He is told that he is needed by them and it's nice to be needed. That maybe be me talking out of my derriere and using pop psychology to boot, but it sounds pretty accurate, right?

I watched tonight's episode with my mother, who is new to Dirty Sexy Money. Last week I filled her in on some of the overall plot basics and happenings of last season, and about halfway through this episode she turned to me and asked, "Is there any day in this family where there isn't a crisis?" No, mom. There isn't. If there was anything but all out insanity 24/7, they would not be the Darlings. Then again, she also pointed out that Nick and Lisa have the same haircut, so I'm not sure which of us takes this less seriously.

A flashy birthday party with lots of photographers, outrageous gifts that no sane person would every conceivably have a reason to give, and a visit by the New York police department. Ah yes, Dirty Sexy Money is back on the air and the Darlings in all of their unbelievable insanity are back in full force. But that's why we love them, right? Right?

"Dirty Sexy Money" Down a Twin?

According to TVGuide's Ausiello:

"Samaire Armstrong, who plays Juliet, brat-astic celebutante and fraternal twin to Jeremy, will not be returning to the series full-time, sources confirm to me exclusively. A spokesperson for ABC Studios declined to comment, but a Dirty Sexy insider tells me that producers decided not to pick up Armstrong's contract option. The actress is, however, expected to appear on a recurring basis, her schedule permitting."

"Dirty Sexy Money" Recap & Review - "The Nutcracker"

Dirty Sexy Money
"The Nutcracker"

Original Air Date: December 5, 2007

Shawn P - TwoCents Staff Writer

Last time on DSM, Brian and Nick, two peas in a pod. Au revoir Gustav.

This week: couplings, art, faith, and Tchaikovsky.

Hmm, we open on various beds: Germs and Charo, Patty and the Mrs, Nick and Lisa, and Simon and Karen. Karen vows to blow off the family Nutcracker tradition to meet Simon’s friends. Tripp visits Brian at work, where he makes what I guess we’d call “a gesture.” Gesture denied with a Mutumbo-like finger wave.

Previously on DSM, Thanksgiving. This week, the show goes all Tarantino with corkscrew timelines and other such nonsense. But no Uma. Dang.

We start the episode with Brian Darling being arrested for attempting to bribe a public official. Sweet! He manages to snap at Nick on his way to the slammer.

Happy Turkey Day, friends and neighbors! We last left our DSM pals forlorn and unrequited after the Karen/Freddy aborted nuptials. Considering the nuptials technically occurred, is the proper phrase euthanized nuptials? Either way, it’s tough to pull of a witty quip, so let’s move along to our current events and never speak of those sentences again.

"Dirty Sexy Money" Recap & Review - "The Wedding"

DSM
"The Wedding"

Original Air Date: November 14, 2007

Shawn P - TwoCents Staff Writer

Episode 7 of DSM opens with Karen getting all kinds of carnal with the Freddy the Golf Pro. Pan back to reveal Reverend Brian sitting at the foot of the bed. See? That’s why I love this show. Evil Reverend, the break-out character of the season, gives the shallow couple a pep talk for their nuptials that basically breaks down to “although no one cares what you say, the wedding is real, and I’m a real Priest, and I’m gonna smite you if you mock this ceremony.” First spin-off: The Reverend Brian Variety Hour. Gustav as a Andy Richter-like side-kick. Special musical guests that Brian can berate between sets. Just thinking out loud here.

But Karen’s getting cold feet.

When we last caught up with the Dirty Sexy Money crew, it was 1992. I know it feels that long ago, but it’s actually only been a week a half. All apologies for my tardiness, I had other things to do. Sadly, same can’t be said of Nick George, who occupies an incredible percentage of the time look exasperated and waiting hand and foot on the Darlings instead of doing the charity that supposedly is oh so important to him. That $10M foundation has bought two playgrounds so far. Nick George, changing the world one swing set at a time, at a rate of three or four per year.

Original Air Date: October 24, 2007

Previous episodes were veritable cornucopias of filth, fornication, and fiduciary mismanagement. This week opens with Nick and Simon Elder in a limo. Simon Says: touch your toes and watch as I drag this series kicking and screaming to Season 2 based on nothing more than my LA Law charm and this new goatee. Nick responds: done and done. Quick question – does Blair Underwood age? Is there a rotting portrait hidden in the attic of his Hollywood Hills mansion? Or are they using that creepy technology that had Fred Astaire dancing with a Dirt Devil?

Previously on DSM, not all press was good press as banking went risqué. Are they rerunning last week’s episode? Because tonight’s show starts with the George brood just like last week, including Rugrat George. Rugrat George is quickly ushered away by Daisy as they both place calls to their agents to see if they get a residual check for seven seconds of work in this episode. Nick and Lisa go blah blah blah Kiki blah blah blah. Aha! Rugrat’s name is Kiki. I think we’ve officially learned everyone’s name. Yup, our last holdout gets named tonight!
