EW's Entertainers of the Year!

Just received this from Entertainment Weekly...

Each year Entertainment Weekly names the year’s top entertainers. This year’s list includes the most popular, the most buzzed about, the class clowns, the prodigies, the 8 to watch in ’08, the valedictorians, and EW.com readers’ pick.

This year's Entertainers of the Year are:

Taking the title of this year’s Entertainers of the Year is not an individual, but a visionary – J.K. Rowling.

Matt Damon, Carrie Underwood, Johnny Depp, Kanye West, and Katherine Heigl are crowned the most popular for the sole reason that they’ve been able to win over both the masses and the critics – a huge feat.

Gerard Butler, Amy Winehouse, Tyler Perry, and Mad Men constitute the people who really set tongues wagging at the watercooler.

What made you laugh this year? Odds are the comedy that had you rolling in the aisles – or off your couches -- was brought to audiences by Tina Fey, Judd Apatow and his gang (Seth Rogen, Leslie Mann, Jonah Hill, Paul Rudd), The Simpsons, Vanessa Williams, or FunnyOrDie.com’s Adam McKay and Will Ferrell.

With a combined age of 75 years, Zac Efron, Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, and Shia LaBeouf are the four fresh faces that are leading an explosive youth movement in music, movies, and TV.

The Sopranos, Angelina Jolie, Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones, the cable queens (Glenn Close, Mary-Louise Parker, Kyra Sedgwick, Holly Hunter), and George Clooney constitute the straight “A” crowd that gets their grades for a reason.

You can check it all out HERE.

What's Your Six Degrees?

Ok, so everyone loves that Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon game.

You know... someone says a celebrity and you have to connect them to Kevin Bacon somehow.

Someone in the TwoCents Office just suggested Kermit the Frog. So, let me think.

Kermit was in The Muppet Movie with Frank Oz, Frank Oz was in Spies Like Us with Dan Akroyd, Akroyd was in Nothing But Trouble with Demi Moore who was in A Few Good Men with Kevin Bacon!

Now, I'm going to check this cool site, http://oracleofbacon.org/oracle/ and see what the fine people at The University of Virgina say... HAH! I stumped them. They don't credit Kermit enough. But if I use Jim Henson (voice of Kermit), the computer beats me with a Bacon Number of 2! Jim Henson (I) was in Muppet Movie, The (1979) with Steve Martin (I), Steve Martin (I) was in Novocaine (2001) with Kevin Bacon.

A side note - I have a Bacon Number of 2 also. I was in a Community Theater play with someone who was in Sleepers with Kevin Bacon!

Do you have a Bacon number?

Elite "Club" Opens Its Doors

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is extending invitations to join the organization to 115 artists and executives who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures. Those who accept the invitation will be the only additions in 2007 to the Academy’s roster of voting members.

“These individuals are all exceptionally accomplished in their respective fields,” said Academy President Sid Ganis. “We’re looking forward to having them join the Academy’s ranks.”

The membership policies that the Academy adopted four years ago in order to slow the growth of the organization would have allowed a maximum of nearly 150 new members in 2007, but as in the previous three years, the various branch committees endorsed far fewer candidates than were proposed to them. Voting membership in the organization has now held steady at just under 6,000 members for four years.

“The numbers are stabilizing nicely,” said Academy Executive Director Bruce Davis, “but at the same time some interesting changes are occurring. Like the recent lists of Oscar® nominees, our last few membership invitation lists have been increasingly international.”

New members will be welcomed into the Academy at an invitation-only reception at the Fairbanks Center for Motion Picture Study in Beverly Hills in September.

Some of the 2007 invitees include: Jennifer Aniston, Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, Eddie Murphy, Christopher Plummer (how has he NOT been in till now!?), Jennifer Hudson, and J.J. Abrams.

Kevin Smith Loves Him Some Glinda!

Kevin Smith, "Silent Bob" and director of those great View Askew movies (Chasing Amy, Dogma, Clerks, etc), has finally put up another real blog!

One of the highlights...he saw "Wicked" and it drove him to post: "Has anyone seen “Wicked” - the musical about the Witches of Oz? Jesus Christ, is it awesome! Clever, funny, and moving, I gotta confess: I cried like a fat kid surrounded by six jocks out to..." Well, you can read his blog if you want to see how that line finished, be warned, Smith isn't afraid of profanity in his movies, nor in his blog!

He also updates on some of his current projects and his new video diet journal that will be coming to People.com

Got A Problem? These 100 Can Help!

Time Magazine has released its list of 100 most influencial people in the world.

I love lists like this, because where else can you find Queen Elizabeth, Barack Obama, the YouTube guys and Kate Moss on the same list.

So, this list is supposed to be the 100 most influencial people in the world! Time's website lists them as: "Here's our list of the 100 men and women whose power, talent or moral example is transforming the world."

I would agree with certain celebrities like Oprah, Leo and Brad Pitt because of all the humanitarian efforts, but should entertainers like Tina Fey, Kate Moss, Sasha Baron Cohen, Tyra Banks and NFL football coach Tony Dungee make it when the leader of the free world, President Bush, isn't even on the list? You may or may not like him, but I would think the US President would break into the top of the list before America Ferrera.

All that being said, the list is a good read because the write-ups of each list member is done by another member of the 'pop' world. Example - Leo's piece was written by Martin Scorsese.

Matthew Perry Gets Some Fresh Air...

... driving home late last night I was listening to radio and something caught my attention.

Staying with my "Friends" theme of the evening, as soon as I turned it on it was a clip of Chandler doing his Mr. T starter kit bit about a gold bracelet Joey had bought him. So, I stopped and listened. As anyone who knows me can tell you, I'm a big fan of Perry.

It turned out to be an interview with Chandler himself, Matthew Perry on the NPR program called "Fresh Air". Perry discusses his new dramatic turn in "Numb" which is now playing at the Tribeca Film Festival and which Perry also directed. He also talks about Friends, Studio 60, Aaron Sorkin, back pills and other really interesting stuff.

You can listen to the interview on NPR's website. It's a good listen.
