This episode opens with Karen returning home from Whole Foods to find Hank playing Guitar Hero instead of cleaning the apartment in preparing for their dinner party. The viewer immediately senses the tension between Hank and Karen when she turns off the television (interrupting Hank’s well established game of Guitar Hero) and tells him he should be preparing for the dinner party. She sounds like a responsible mom telling her irresponsible kid to get his act together, a dynamic which seems to have plagued the couple since they reunited.

In this episode, past resentment for Hank continues to reemerge when Karen finds herself chatting with the prostitute that Hank bedded in Season 1. Trixie the prostitute (Duchovny’s line “How’s tricks?” is damn funny) tells Karen, “That brown haired guy, he is pretty good in the sack department.” Suddenly I am reminded of what it’s like to date a player… sucky. You feel like you’re not special, and you know lots of other people in town have sampled the goods. Ugh. Not sexy at all. Karen later states, “There is nothing I find sexy about you right now.”

Merely one episode after we view Hank and Karen interact as a newly reunited couple, we are already beginning to witness their demise. Karen gives Hank the silent treatment, only communicating through Becca, who tells her father “Mom says you should use this time to think.”
