The twist in this season is coming very late. But if I told you what it was at the beginning of this review, then there wouldn't be any fun in reading this. The date for the Morgan-Bennet nuptials are fast approaching. Masuka is planning the bachelor party, the food is being catered, and Deb is figuring out if she's a +1 for the wedding. Which, duh, she should be, because Anton is not only incredibly attractive, but also isn't creepily older than her, and isn't a serial killer. Anton should stick around, he's good for Deb - even if her relationship with him could hurt her chances of getting her Detective shield. Even she knows that he's good for her, but, she's a career lady, so she's pushing him away as much as she can.

Dexter is weighing his options about what to do with his BFF (former? I can't decide yet). 1) He could kill Miguel, 2) Cut himself off from Miguel or 3) Control every little thing that Miguel does. If Dexter wants to keep up the façade of friendship to the outside world, the third option would be his best bet - but Miguel isn't going to let himself be controlled that easily. But that doesn't mean that Dexter won't try to win this game of chess.

Miguel makes the first move: a wedding gift for Dexter and Rita of 5 star catering for the event

Dexter follows up: He reveals his uneasiness about Miguel to Rita, and Rita immediately jumps to conclusions that Miguel and LaGuerta are having an affair. Rita will of course tell Sylvia about this, thus causing a stir in the Prado relationship. Also, alert Miguel that Ellen Wolfs murder is being investigated, in a pleasantly passive-aggressive way, he lets Miguel know he'll keep him filled in on the details.

Miguel: Seduces Maria onto his side by getting her drunk, playing the sensitive soul and making out after a trip down Nostalgia Avenue

Poor Maria. Last season she loses Doakes. This season she loses her new close friend. The woman is a wreck and in no condition to be investigating a case she's so personally attached to. Her grief could be clouding her judgment that the big SUV with the blinding Halogen lights that was seen outside of Ellen's apartment the night she died, belongs to Miguel.

Dexter: Interrupts the make out session by knocking loudly on Maria's door, profusely apologizing for some unreported blood work. Also, Sylvia shows up too.

I'll be frank, Angel should have been picked as Dexter's best man. Last season, Dexter told Angel that if he could choose to be a real person, he would choose to be Angel. Now, Angel was more confused than anything about what this exactly meant, but it was as close to a sincere compliment from Dexter than he's ever going to get. Angel has also grown a lot as a character, in a large part due to his relationship with Barbara - it brings out this sensitive and possessive side to the Sergeant. Barbara, while working, gets hit in the head hard by a would-be John, but she's a tough cookie, so she makes do with what's readily available: a set of keys. Angel, seeking out vengeance for his lady love, takes the key and asks Dexter for some blood work on the key to ID the attacker. Dexter, in a moment of consciousness (and in light of how well things worked out with Miguel) tells Angel, in the only way he can, that it's not such a good idea to act rashly out of vengeance. Angel, totally gets it - he ends up just arresting the attacker. Let's just hope that after Dexter kills Miguel, which, come on, he has to, Angel will step in as Best Man.

Miguel: Informs Dexter of an ethics probe into the actions of the female Morgan. He passive aggressively lets him know that he'll keep him informed of all the details.

Dexter: Turns out that one of Ellen Wolfs wedding rings went missing during her murder. Dexter knows that Miguel like to keep trophies. So, he finds the ring, and takes it with him - leaving a little pick-up slip from the Dry Cleaners - it seems that they failed to get the blood stain out of the shirt.

Miguel: Invites Dexter onto the rooftop for a little chat. Miguel has the ability to make life very difficult for Dexter and unexpected warrant for The Slice of Life perhaps? But in true Dexter style, he keeps his cool. But that's because he doesn't know that Miguel has made the ultimate move. Overlooking the conversation from another building, is George Washington King - The Skinner. Turns out Miguel let him loose for this very reason, to kill Dexter.

Dexter: Gets caught by The Skinner, is bound and gagged to the inside of the trunk.

Miguel wins this round. But Dexter's been in sticky situations often, I'm sure he'll get out of this one, and make this difficult for his BFF (former).

  2. Is Anton still hot with those two huge patches of skin missing? :)
