Firefly Convention This Weekend!

For those of you in the Burbank, CA area - there's a Firefly/Serenity convention going on there this weekend!

USA Today's Pop Candy reported it here. Scheduled to attend are: Summer Glau, Gina Torres, Jewel Staite, Adam Baldwin and Ron Glass.

WB Reintroduces Some Old Friends

The WB is back, starting August 27, when the Warner Bros. Television Group officially launches TheWB.com – a premium, ad-supported, video-on-demand, interactive and personalized network – to the public. Announced in April, TheWB.com had previously been in private beta.

TheWB.com will feature full episodes of fan-favorite series that have shaped popular culture and inspired devoted followings over the past decade, including the previously announced “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Everwood,” “Friends,” “Gilmore Girls,” “The O.C.,” “One Tree Hill,” “Roswell,” “Smallville” and “Veronica Mars.” Additional series newly acquired for TheWB.com and not previously announced include “Angel,” “Babylon 5,” “Firefly,” “In Living Color,” “The Loop” and “MADtv.”

Wanting to get between the bond that Zoë and Captain Mal have (they were in a war together, after all), Wash elects to go on a mission with Mal instead of Zoë. Bad move. Niska (one of the big bads of the show) finds the two, kidnaps the, and proceeds to torture the hell out of them. He was miffed that they didn’t follow through when he hired them in the episode Train Job.

“Out of Gas” is number three on my Top 5 Firefly episodes. Not a hard list to come up with, really, since it only ran one season. But, boy, if this one isn’t a doozy! Right in the middle of Simon’s birthday party Serenity explodes. Maybe ‘explodes’ is a bad word… a chain reaction, really, causes some explosion-like events which in turn causes the ships life support to go all kerfloopy and knocks out Zoë. Damn that compression coil Kaylee warned Mal about several episodes ago! Didn’t he read the script? Mal orders the crew into the shuttles hoping for a miracle. They are to go in opposite directions and try to find help (which is a tall order since there are in the middle of nowhere outerspace) while he stays behind and tries to fix things, ignoring the fact that the oxygen is just about to run out.

In the second part of this two-parter pilot episode, we learn the story of River and Simon. In a nutshell: she is freaking brilliant, the Alliance recruited her for a “special” program at age 14, something went horribly wrong, and (prompted by cryptic message from River) Simon rescued her. Now on the run from the government, the two have brought even more risk to the crew of Serenity. Mal decides to throw them off the ship in the next port.

Nathon Fillion is Back on TV!

It's not "Firefly" but really, what is?

The Hollywood Reporter is stating that Nathon Fillion has signed on for a new pilot for a series called "Castle"

"Castle," from ABC Studios, is a comedic procedural about a famous mystery novelist (Fillion) helping the NYPD solve crimes."

She mentions some great episode ideas she had, her willingness to do anything Firefly related again and the fact that it looks like they are going to release a new special edition DVD set of the series!
