Hell’s Kitchen
“Day Eight”

Original Air Date: March 26, 2009

This week starts out with the always entertaining taste test, where we find out who has been smoking far too much to know their chicken from their beef. Andrea takes an early lead with thinking filet mignon was liver but Robert and Giovanni both really strike out. Robert’s favorite food is apparently black truffles and not only is he unable to identify it, he says he hates the taste! The final round is to name ingredients in minestrone soup, just by tasting it. I love it when they do that!

The women, plus Giovanni, win and get to be in a photoshoot for TV Guide, while the men, plus Lacey, have to wait on the women during the shoot. On top of that, they also have to prep both kitchens for that night’s service. Ouch. Lacey whines nonstop and Ben reaches a breaking point. The women and Giovanni have a lovely time and the blue team isn’t pleased.

At service, Eric McCormack and Robert Patrick show up for dinner. Not too much attention is paid to them other than shots of them eating and saying how good the food is. It’s still nice to see them though.

Standouts on the Side of Good:
Danny – Not only does he do well but he says the VIP table isn’t extra pressure for him because he puts 110 percent into every dish. Also, when Lacey freaks out, he’s actually very supportive of her and speaks kindly to her.

Robert – He does very well on appetizers and yes, this makes him stand out since no one ever seems to do well on appetizers.

Standouts on the Side of Bad:
Lacey – Oh, she can’t handle the pressure of the meat station and freaks out. Gordon kicks her out into the yelling walk-in and Ben tries to help her but ends up burning himself. Lacey tries to pull it together but can’t and she’s so upset and lost that I actually feel badly for her. Gordon kicks her out for real and that’s the end of Lacey. She has a few tearful words for the camera about how she should have listened to her mom when she told her not to make enemies. It’s sad but she definitely had to go.

Carol and Andrea – Neither can communicate with the other and blame each other for when they screw up. Andrea’s John Dory gets messed up because Carol won’t give her an accurate time. Carol also serves rare meat that gets sent back.

L.A. – She goes silent when things go wrong, which isn’t good in Gordon’s eyes. She gets blamed for cold food on the garnish station when Carol kept messing up and couldn’t communicate how long for her dish.

Who Wins, Who Is Nominated and Who Gets Sent Home:
The three remaining men on the blue team finish and finish well. Gordon commends them on their teamwork, especially since the five people on red just couldn’t hack it. He tells the red team to all choose the nominees and L.A., Carol and Andrea get called up for elimination. Gordon sends L.A. home because he says she “lacks leadership and creativity.”

I get that she wasn’t emerging as a leader but I liked her. She wasn’t crazy and she worked hard, even if her communication sometimes suffered. What did you think? Did L.A. deserve to go home? Who do you think should win the whole thing? Tell me your TwoCents in the comments!

  2. As a Robert Patrick fan, I seriously squealed. Heh.

I have to say, I didn't have a favorite at the beginning of the season, Gio is growing on me. Maybe because he's not outwardly crazy or bitchy and seems to know what he's doing. (Also? I almost want either Carol or Andrea to go home so we can stop hearing about how they hate each other every week.)

  3. Brittany, Gio seems to be growing in skill too. At the beginning, he messed up a lot, especially with the steakhouse night but now he seems on his game.

I am so sick of all the Carol/Andrea fighting every week! It's more annoying than Lacey sometimes. They can't get past blaming each other for every little thing and it's so ridiculous.
