Picture your worst travel day ever: flight delays, fog, technical problems that send you back to your airport of departure, etc. And what if you are trying to get from, say, Austria to Romania but get stuck for the night in Amsterdam? Now picture having such a day while in a race for one million dollars! Yikes! This is not going to be pretty.

  1. The Top 9 Things I Learned on The Amazing Race 14

Mel and Mike [Father/Son]: Hooray for Team Hollywood. Mel and Mike skated through this leg of the race, even though at the Detour, they picked the most physical of the challenges (moving a Romanian Gypsy family from one campsite to another). I thought for sure they would pick the vampire-themed choice... there was fake blood and everything! But, in the end, the got to the mat (at the foot of Vlad the Impaler’s castle in Transylvania) in 1st place so “Yay!” Also, they won a trip for two to Costa Rica. Nice.

Amanda and Kris [Dating]: These two also opted for the Gypsy Detour where they made a potentially fatal mistake: Kris set down his fanny-pack... with all their money and passports... at a random campsite... full of GYPSIES! After some frantic searching (and me yelling at the screen “How stupid can you be?!?!”), the fanny-pack was located and they got to the mat in 2nd. Whew!

Kisha and Jen [Sisters]: Sibling rivalry seemed to have simmered down a bit on this leg of the race, allowing Kisha and Jen to move up in the rankings quite a bit. They got to Phil in 3rd.

Margie and Luke [Mother/Son]: Margie was the first to attempt the portion of the Vampire Detour (staking wooden frames from a coffin to find a flag) and was appropriately disgusted and surprised when blood exploded out of the frame. Dear AR Producers: Nice touch! Running a steady leg, my horses arrived at the mat in 4th place again. Keep it up!

Mark and Michael [Brothers/Stuntmen]: Trying to regain some ground they lost on the last leg because of sheer laziness (We don’t need to hurry!), the stuntmen flew slightly under the radar this leg, completing tasks handily and getting to Phil in 5th place. They still have a lot of ground to cover...

Christie and Jodi [Flight Attendants]: After having finished second to last in each leg so far, these two need to kick it into overdrive. Luckily, they didn’t have all the clue-reading problems they did last week and moved up, finishing fourth to last this time (that’s 7th place to those keeping track).

Cara and Jaime [Former NFL Cheerleaders]: I figured that former NFL cheerleaders would have an easy time at the Road Block: performing several gymnastics moves at the Romanian gym where Nadia Comaneci trained. Well, she looked great in the leotard! The bonus side to this team? They are really making an effort to communicate with Luke. Jaime is even using American Sign Language, which is awesome! Is there romance blooming on the race again??? They got to the mat 7th.

Tammy and Victor [Siblings/Lawyers]: Worst. Leg. Ever. First, they get on the first flight. All’s great, right? Wrong. The plane has technical difficulties so they go back to Munich. Then, they missed a connection. Then, Tammy had a heck of a time doing the gymnastics stuff (she couldn’t even do a cartwheel!). Then, they get to the Vampire Detour and start hiking up the mountain on the “marked path”... marked with white and red stripes, not the standard yellow and red arrows. These two go so far up the mountain and into the wilds of Transylvania, I swear they could have been kidnapped by real gypsies (or worse! Bwah-ha-ha!). Tammy pleaded with Victor for miles to turn back, but would he listen? No. Finally he gave in, certain that he was right, with an air of “OK, little sister, we’ll do it your way for a while and you’ll see you are dead wrong!” When they got back down the mountain and found the REAL marked path, he barely even apologized. Frustrated, they struggled in the Detour and bickered the entire way. When they got to the mat in 8th place (remember, they started in 1st) Victor broke down. Serves him right! Now treat your sister with some respect and stop being such a stubborn jerk!

Brad and Victoria [Married]: Oh, boy! Trying to get a jump on everyone else, the married couple booked an earlier flight to Romania via Amsterdam with a very tight connection. When they got there, guess what? They had missed their next flight. They were then told that the airport was closed because of fog and could not get another flight to Romania until around 10:00 the next morning. Yikes! I have to give it to them, though. Several hours behind the rest of the teams, they finished all their tasks, never complaining. They arrived at the mat last, but had no regrets!

What do YOU think? Did you yell at your TV at all this episode? Who will be the next to be eliminated? Give us your Two Cents… We’ll put it in the blood bank! Bwah-ha-ha!

    Next Week: on to Russia!
