  1. This week’s episode opened with a flashback: Kate and Jack talking on Penny’s boat shortly after leaving the island. Kate decides that she has to say Aaron is hers because she can’t lose him too. By now, you’ve probably guessed that this week, a lot of whiny-Kate action would take place, and you’re sort of right. But there’s a diabolical, if not totally surprising, twist ahead for woe-is-me Kate.

In the present day, Kate borrows an outfit from Sun and heads off for the office of the lawyer trying to get her to give a sample of Aaron’s blood to prove she’s not his mother. As soon as Kate leaves, Sun gets a delivery: photos of Ben with Jack, and a box of chocolates with a gun hidden inside. I guess the saying is true, you never know what you’re gonna get. Kate tries to strike a deal with Norton the lawyer, saying she’ll give a blood sample if she gets to meet his client, but he tells her she isn’t in a position to make deals and she’s going to lose Aaron. Back on the island, Faraday and the rest of the crew are looking over the increasingly ill Charlotte. Juliet asks Daniel if he knows what’s happening to her, and he says he suspected it might happen. Locke gets the brilliant idea that going to the Orchid would fix things, and he sort of uses the promise of Kate to get Sawyer to go with him, even though Sawyer thinks the Oceanic Six are all dead. Charlotte wakes up, and temporarily forgets who Daniel is.

While Jack is examining Sayid, Sayid tells him Ben isn’t on his side. Jack gets caught (finally) by another doctor at the hospital, who tells him he’s not supposed to be there. Suddenly, Jack gets a call from Hurley, who says he’s in jail and that means he’s safe from Ben. Jack is really confused. Ben shows up and meets Jack in the hall, while a man tries to kill Sayid. Ever the badass, Sayid strangles him, but not before getting the man to tell him that he should look at the address in his pocket (that’s sort of what she said.) Turns out, it’s Kate’s address. Jack, using his one-track mind, calls Kate and runs off to meet her, leaving Sayid and Ben to go get Hurley. I was excited to get to see them on an adventure together, but that didn’t really happen. I was envisioning a crime-solving duo in an A-team-esque van, but alas, no. Jack tells Kate someone wants Aaron because their lie has been uncovered. On the island, Sawyer asks Locke how to get Kate back. Before Locke can really answer, they see a light in the jungle. As Charlotte says she’s feeling better, Miles gets a nosebleed. I love Miles, because he’s snarky and doesn’t seem to like Charlotte much, meaning we have two things in common. Sawyer hears screams and sees Kate delivering Claire’s baby. Locke asks what he saw, but Sawyer says it doesn’t matter, because it’s gone.

The last time Locke saw a light on the island was the night Boone died (oh, how I do not miss him) and a light came out of the hatch door. Maybe that’s when the island was at that moment? It would be interesting for Locke to run into a past version of himself, because he’d be unable not to do something stupid. And trust me, I watch Doctor Who, so I know about time travel do’s and don’ts. Miles tells Daniel about his nosebleed, and Daniel asks if he’s sure he’s never been to the island before, leaving me to believe that Charlotte probably has because if Daniel is correct, people are more likely to get sick if they’ve had lots of exposure to time travel before. They all go to the beach, where they find their empty camp and several canoes, one with an Ajira Airlines water bottle in it. They get in the canoes, Sawyer tells Juliet he saw Kate, and people start shooting at them. They are saved by a flash, and they find themselves in a storm.

Kate and Jack follow Norton, who is meeting with Claire’s mother. Jack goes to talk to her, and finds that she has no idea Aaron even exists. She’s in LA to get a settlement from the airline. As Sayid and Ben pull up in their A-team van in a parking garage, Ben asks why Sayid tried to rescue Hurley. Norton walks up to the van and tells Ben that Hurley will be released, and Ben tells Sayid that Norton is his lawyer. I knew it, because Ben is the only one who’s diabolical enough to hatch this plan to get Kate to run. Kate, Jack, Ben and Sayid meet at the pier, and Ben admits to trying to take Aaron. They’re not alone, though, because Sun is watching, and she’s getting her chocolate gun ready. On the island, Jin wakes up, having been retrieved by a group of French people who were caught in the storm. A pregnant woman gives him water, and introduces herself as Danielle Rousseau, and then my head exploded.

I liked this episode, but I thought it was a bit Kate-heavy. I did love seeing Ben again, though, because he’s just too wonderful for words, and I really loved his awkward interactions with Sayid. What did you guys think? Leave your two cents in the comments!

  2. It was a pretty good episode. I wasn't loving the Kate stuff, but what could you do?

My favorite line of the night was Sawyer's "Who came in these? Other Others?"
