Well, hope is renewed for "Private Practice." It's the first day of rain in sunny Los Angeles & Addison is reminded of what she left behind in Seattle. She runs into work yelling at the receptionist,"It doesn't rain in LA!!!!!!" She admits to Naomi that she felt like her new start in Los Angeles would be special & new as she realizes that she does not fit in the new city. The show got off to a fast start by introducing THREE new medical cases!

1) A woman whose nose won't stop bleeding.
2) A girl who is blue. "Cornflower" to be precise.
3) A 35 year old woman who has never had sex but finds out that her va-jay-jay is broken.

The woman whose nose wouldn't stop bleeding had a "weakling" husband who was a patient of Violet's for three years. He told her that he wanted to leave his wife until he found out that she was terminally ill & then decided to use his newly found backbone to be her strength for the remainder of her life. Even though his wife was an emasculating beast that would have made Hemingway blush it was still very touching.

The girl who turned blue turned out to be spreading. Her sisters also all turned blue. Dr. Cooper had to go to their house to try & find out the source of what was causing it & also the seizures that one was experiencing. He ended up decided to befriend the girls & got to be in the most adorable scene in the series yet. The three younger girls put on fairy costumes & ran through the backyard & he had to put on fairy wings & bring a wand & follow them. They took him to their "castle" & inside he discovered large amounts of nitrate fertilizer.

The 35 year old woman was adamant about being able to finally sleep with her boyfriend & so Dr. Addison the Great fixed her & although a bit anticlimactic it was a great subplot.

But amazingly enough the new medical cases were NOT what drove this episode! I won't lie. I was dreading watching tonight's episode because I was so bored & disappointed by last week's. But somehow, someway, somewhere, a sudden spark of Wonderful has been injected into "Private Practice!"

Addison's speech about not feeling like an outsider in Los Angeles was lovely & I wouldn't expect anything less of her.Sam & Naomi actually exuded the first bits of real life relationship chemistry even though they are getting divorced. I FELT for them as a couple & laughed in all the right places. Naomi is probably my new favorite character aside from one other surprise gem. The Hot Receptionist....whose name is...:::runs to IMDB:::...William! tells the office his Women philosophy. "Find out what they want & then give it to them." (Pay attention male readers!) William was just a pretty face in the first two episodes but this episode alone garnered him a definite crush from yours truly. He is adorable & I can't wait to see him try to get with Naomi. His crush on her is adorable. Speaking of adorable crushes...Amy Brenneman's character Violet was as stiff as cardboard until this episode. There wasn't much plot progression with her character but something about her dialogue completely fleshed out her character & made her vulnerable, sympathetic, & lovely. I am totally on Team Violet...for...whatever game she ends up playing on the show. I am still not a fan of Pete. Pete is a downer. He isn't really attractive to me & doesn't have the same humor & spark that the Grey's Anatomy doctors had...Dr. Burke...Dr. McDreamy...Dr. McSteamy...it makes me slightly sad that he's inevitably going to be paired up with Addison because I so want to see her with someone engaging & fabulous!

The underlying theme of the entire episode is the question that Naomi poses: "When is there going to be a little magic?" The BEST part of the episode by FAR was the last ten minutes. Sam has he & Naomi's daughter for the weekend & Naomi says goodbye to them before returning to the receptionist's desk. William hands her another cake & says,"Double chocolate fudge." Naomi SNAPS. She takes it & then slams it down on the desk & says,"I don't want your stupid cake! I want SAM'S cake!!!" William says,"I just brought you a cake..." Naomi lunges at him & Addison & Violet have to restrain her & as they're tugging her away she yells the best line I've heard on television all year,'This BOY...is baking CAKES at me!!!!!!!!!!" I'm still laughing whenever I think about it. We see Violet finally deleting the last message her Ex left her on the answering machine so that she can move on with her life & hopefully marry & have lots of babies with Dr. Cooper. (Well, I hope that anyway.) The final shot is of Addison in bed & she hears it begin to rain again...reminding her of Seattle...& then this new life she's started in Los Angeles & she rolls over & goes to sleep with a smile on her face.

When is there going to be a little magic? Right now. With "Private Practice." I feel the way that Addison does towards Seattle Grace Hospital. Too much drama. Too much heartbreak. Too complicated. I wasn't too sure about her new life in Los Angeles but after this impeccably acted & written episode there is NO question where my allegiance lies! I definitely predict a good number of season renewals & a few Emmys down the line....most of all for Kate the Great Walsh.
