This week, the Winchesters discover a guy named Chuck has been writing books that contain exactly what’s happened to them since the beginning of the show. Yes, even Bugs is a book. The new, unpublished books contain everything since No Rest For The Wicked, including what’s going to happen in the future. Naturally, Sam and Dean investigate and rush to keep the newest chapter from happening.

When this episode started, I figured some fans would love it and some would hate it. I’m somewhere in between. I started off feeling a bit insulted with Sam and Dean reading up on their fan base. It feels absolutely weird to me to have Sam and Dean commenting on their fans and was kind of like a Neverending Story moment, except less fun. I didn’t need Sam explaining slash to Dean. Sam and Dean don’t need to know about Wincest. I wish I didn’t know about Wincest.

Some of the best parts for me were Dean’s reactions to this whole mess. When the publisher tells him, “the best parts are when they cry,” Dean mouths, “What the f--- ” which was pretty much my reaction too. Then there’s when Chuck is hesitant about telling Dean the newest part of the story and says, “You especially are not going to like this.” Dean shoots back, “I didn’t like hell.” Also, I can’t forget to mention that when Sam said, “You think I’ll go darkside,” Dean actually shouted, “Yes!” Me too, Dean.

The words “The Winchester Gospel” caused a strong reaction in one of my friends and she didn’t like it at all. I don’t either. Whatever happened to the days when Buffy saved the world and no one really knew about it? If Dean’s going to stop the apocalypse, I’d really rather it not be written down as gospel. I miss when it was just Sam and Dean against ghosts and demons. This just seems like it’s getting far too epic in scope than how I want it to be for the Winchesters.

I liked the way Sam handled Chuck telling him that drinking demon blood wouldn’t be viewed as sympathetic. I didn’t expect this new Sam to take it so well and sort of see that it’s a problem. He’s still in there, which is a nice thing to see. It was interesting to hear Sam say Dean isn’t Dean. I don’t know if Dean is that different to me. I mean, he’s screwed up from hell, which should be expected but Dean holds a lot in in general and aside from confronting Sam a few dozen times, he’s really held in a lot. Sam’s the one who doesn’t seem like himself at all anymore. Still, I liked that that is Sam’s perspective on Dean.

I don’t know about you but my head near exploded when Sam and Lilith were talking about yet another deal. I swear, it’s the Winchester way to just make deals. When has that ended well and not bit them in the ass? Honestly.

Dean prays and when Castiel shows up, he begs him to help. Okay, Cas and I sometimes have issues, as in, I’m not always a fan. However, I am a huge fan of Cas in this episode, helping Dean save the day and Sam but at the same time, he made sure he did not help. It’s good to know that an archangel is attached to a prophet. Somehow, I feel like this will be important again. Speaking of angels, Zachariah is a scary one. I feel badly for Chuck, having the burden of all of this terrible information but also the heavier burden that he can’t do anything but document it. Poor thing.

I love these boys but they’re killing me. The writers are taking them down such a dark path that it gets difficult to get excited about the show. It’s more like a “what’s going to happen to them this week?” type of dread. I can’t stop watching either because I care so much about Sam and Dean and need to know what happens to them. Let’s face it, most of us are in this for the long haul.

It’s a two week break until the next new episode “Jump The Shark,” airing April 23, so in the meantime, you can share your TwoCents about this episode and everything Supernatural with me in the comments!
