Harper's Island - Recap & Review - Crackle

Harper’s Island
Crackle

Original Air Date: Apr 16, 2009

Well. I for one was not disappointed in this week’s episode. It was a bit more intense and we lost 3 more people. The writers are wasting no time and I guess neither will I, on telling you what happened.

Abby wakes up and decides to go for a run. My first question to you is: Why did she sleep in her dress? So, as Abby is running, she sees a deer and stops to admire it. A hand is clasped over her mouth as she has a look of horror on her face. It is Jimmy, trying to keep her quiet while Shane (I think I will call him “Chip”, because he has a huge chip on his shoulder) sets his sights to shoot the deer. Abby scares the deer away and says there has been enough death on this island. Later, while Chip and Jimmy head for the truck, they see a dead deer with its throat slit, lying on the hood and “psycho” written in blood on the windshield.

Abby wakes up and decides to go for a run. My first question to you is: Why did she sleep in her dress? So, as Abby is running, she sees a deer and stops to admire it. Later, while Chip and Jimmy head for the truck, they see a dead deer with its throat slit, lying on the hood and “psycho” written in blood on the windshield.

Back at the Candlewick Inn, Henry talks to JD (through the door) and asks him to pretty much stay out of trouble, even though Chip is the one who started last weeks fight. As the camera cuts to JD in the bathroom, we see he is washing off blood from his hands.

Sheriff Mills makes a call on a break-in at a local store where some kind of blade is stolen.

Back at the Inn, Henry has everyone on a scavenger hunt and broken into teams. Sully has English (Cal) switch colors with him so he could be with his buddies, and then we also realize Blondie will now be on Sully’s team and not English’s.
Trish is late for the scavenger meeting because she met up with Hunter (I think I will call him “Stud”) She tells him it is over and then says: “let’s not have a repeat of college”, in which Stud replies ;” I am not worried about Henry” and then there is this worried look on Trish’s face. What was that all about?

Over at the chapel, the priest, who is cleaning up the church, decides to cut through the woods….hello, bad idea…. and gets caught in a rope trap that snags your foot and has you hanging upside-down. All of a sudden you hear the same sound ‘ol Marty heard before his last breath and SLICE!...off come the holy mans head. Yuk! #3 is down!

At the Cannery, with her team, Abby meets Kelly (she is also the girl JD met at the bar). Kelly’s mom died at the hands of Wakefield, too. Kelly tells Abby that he is back and she keeps seeing him. Abby tells her not to worry, even though her face doesn’t say the same.
Abby and the team, convince English to cut through and catch up with Blondie, since he feels stupid for letting Sully trick him. As he walks, the same trap that got the priest, gets him. He is left hanging there.
Abby talks to Jimmy and finds out that Jimmy was heartbroken last time she left the island. Chip blurted it out.

When Henry sees Abby at the Inn and finds out she gave up on the hunt, he decides to go see Jimmy at the boat dock. Henry asks if everything is ok between them and then invites him to the bonfire they are having that night, and mentions Abby will be there. When Henry gets back to his room, there is a blood trail from living room to bathroom. As he opens the door to the bathroom we find the deer head in the tub. Henry is clearly shaken up.

Back in the woods, English is still hanging upside down. Sully comes along, but just takes his map and leaves him hanging. What a loser!

Trish talks to Lucy about Stud. Lucy tells her to talk to her father about getting rid of him. So she goes to see her dad and finds him talking to Stud. She is pissed. Daddy W lies like a ho, saying he was telling him to leave Trish alone. Little does she know that Daddy W is behind the whole breakup plan. C’mon, how can he not like Henry? By the way….Betty Suarez, you are probably kicking yourself for letting that one get away.

Now, Abby goes to see Henry and finds out about the deer head that Henry has been cleaning up before Trish gets back. She mentions that Jimmy and Chip were hunting earlier. Now Henry is pissed, because he thinks they did it. Abby says she will talk to them. She talks to Jimmy who knows nothing about it, but thinks maybe Chip did it to get back at JD.
Abby then goes to Kelly’s place to tell her that if she wants to get off the island, she can stay with her in LA. Kelly is very happy, and then we see JD is at Kelly’s, too.
Kelly and JD spend some “quality time “ together. But later that night, when Nikki (from the Cannery) stops by to get Kelly, we see Kelly hanging from the rafters of her home. Jeez, #4 down.

At the bonfire: Henry gets a text from (dead) Uncle Marty saying he has a wild one and will see him later. Henry then sees Chip and punches him. Camera cuts to Stud, who is watching from the woods.
Blondie asks where English is and then Sully has a look like “oh, crap” and he leads her and a couple of people to English where he is still hanging and they get him down. Ok, so how pissed would you be at Sully?
Lucy’s dog runs out of the clearing and she chases it….stupid, stupid, stupid….and ends up falling through a covered pit. In comes the killer dousing her with fluid and then dropping a match on her, setting his own little bonfire. Mmmmmm any marshmallows?
    #5 down.

What did you think? Surprised at any of the killings? Who do you think will die next week? Any speculation on who the killer is? Let me know.

  2. Hey Cous! I loved my first episode (since I missed last week - but you got me caught up). I'm wondering how anyone can survive hanging upside down for 12 hours?? The blonde girl getting torched completely freaked me out! I have an abnormal fear of someone throwing gas and lighting a match......I think the tall blonde ass (Sully?) will be gone next week - doesn't seem to have a purpose and he's annoying.

  3. He is annoying and so is Shane...aka "Chip". They both could go for all I care.
So here is what what was brought to my attention: the deer head in the tub is not the same deer that was on the truck.(one w/antlers, one without)
also: Jimmy was NOT at the bonfire
    hmmmmm...

  4. As soon as Kelly said that this was her "best day ever," I knew she was going to die. You should NEVER say something like that in a slasher show. Didn't she learn the Horror Film Rules from Randy in Scream?!?

  5. I was quite surprised that they killed off the minister - what did he ever do to anyone?

Shane can seriously go soon - I can't stand him. How can one person be such an ass all the time.

I did enjoy this episode much more than last week.

  6. This week was more intense...There were a few moments where I did look away,or jumped a mile...but I did enjoy it. I do agree with you, why the minister, he did abosolutely nothing. What his name Shane? getting on my nerves so is Daddy. I'd be happy if either one of them went next. As for Cal I was sure he was gone, I mean he was hanging upside down for hours and your telling me he lived.
I knew something was gonna happen to Lucy but omg!! what a way to go...burned alive!!

  7. I was kind of hoping to see Lucy's dog get killed... not that I'm into animal cruelty, or anything, but when the pet gets killed near the beginning of a slasher film, it really speaks as to what kind of story it will be. (Not that cutting Uncle Whats-his-face in half didn't clue me in, but... you know.)

  8. lol, like the Betty reference.
As far a the priest goes, it pretty much confirms the idea that this person does not want the wedding to go on, unless there is some secret to the priest we don't know about.
Also,Why kill Lucy? Who the heck was she that this brought her death, unless of course this killer is just a total nut job and there is no reasoning to his killing. Which is what I am starting to think.

  9. Lucy is the blonde girl right, or who is that? All of these people make me confused. Please get back to me on this, thanks. :)

  10. Lucy is the blonde with the dog that fell into the pit and got set on fire. Ouch.

  11. Correct, Lucy is also Trish's bridesmaid and a childhood friend. If you recall, she is the girl Trish was waiting for in her room and talked to, about Hunter.

  12. Jimmy DID show up at the bonfire - he walked up with Shane and then Henry punched Shane - they just cut away right after that happened to go find the dude hanging from the tree

  13. I rewatched that part , and it wasn't Jimmy. Somebody else came with Shane. If you recall, Jimmy said he couldn't come. The question is...what did he have to do ?
