This week, the contestants must spend $100 and create three Asian fusion dishes to be judged by both Gordon and the editor of epicurious.com. The men start off well, winning the first dish but it all quickly falls apart. J doesn’t even know what one of the dishes is named, calling it, “Beef…” Yeah. Beef. The women win the second and third dishes and win the challenge. Lacey, now on the men’s team, throws a fit and whines nonstop. She even threatens to go home. Quit threatening to leave, Lacey. Just go.

Just go.

The women get to spend the day learning martial arts and beating up each other in sumo wrestling outfits. They also get to see both Gordon and J.P. wrestle in the sumo outfits. It’s not much of a match but the producers seem to force J.P. to be that type of character. Meanwhile, over at Food Prep Island, Lacey does an absolutely horrific British impression. When Robert hears it, he says he wants to die and tells the camera, “Her voice is like a tackhammer in the eye.” I agree. The men gripe about having to make fortune cookies and origami cranes. I just want to point out again that unless they’re breaking down two whole cows and have to eat bits of them, the women have them beat in miserable punishments.

One of the best lines of the night goes to Ben, who is reading the origami instructions. He says, “I love how the directions say at first it will seem impossible.” The origami is impossible for most of the men until Lacey shows them how and they all bond a little as a team. Aw. Score one for Lacey.

Standouts on the Side of Good:
Paula – Her tuna dish from the Asian fusion challenge makes it on the menu. Gordon even says it’s one of the best dishes in Hell’s Kitchen history.

Giovanni & L.A. – Both did well at making risotto. They stand out because few seem to do well with risotto.

Standouts on the Side of Bad:
Andrea – She messes up multiple beef wellingtons and hides them. Gordon eventually finds them, throws them and yells at her. Andrea also tries to hide her mistakes by calling out fake times for when her part will be ready and it really messes up Carol.

J – J also messes up the beef wellingtons as he’s sending them to the pass way, way too rare as the oven is on far too low of a temperature. He’s a fan of raw food this week as he also sends out raw chicken. By the time Gordon gets around to yelling at J, Gordon’s face looks like a tomato.

Colleen – She can’t remember but she possibly left the oven doors open at one point. She also managed to serve a dessert of raw pastry and raw pear which means it’s as hard as a rock. Not good.

Who Wins, Who is Nominated and Who Goes Home:

Gordon shuts the kitchen down, claiming it’s their worst performance so far. After, Robert goes to talk to Gordon privately. Frequently during service, Gordon called Robert Bobby, which is Robert’s father’s name. It set Robert off to the point where he became non-verbal during service and Gordon kicked him out to yell at him in a closet. But see, if Gordon didn’t believe in Robert, he would have yelled at him in the kitchen in front of everyone like he does with most people, instead of in a closet with a shut door. During Gordon and Robert’s private talk after service, Robert explains he had a bad childhood and being called by his father’s name really upsets him. Gordon gave a super sincere apology and clearly felt terrible that he’d made Robert so uncomfortable.

Gordon puts L.A. and Giovanni, the master risotto makers, in charge of picking the nominees. Andrea and J get nominated for elimination but Gordon kicks Colleen out. About time! Gordon says he loves her tenacity and Colleen says that this has made her a better teacher. She’s still going to teach cooking? Are you kidding?!

So, what did you think? Are you as glad that Colleen’s gone as I am? Who do you think has what it takes to win this whole thing? Tell me your TwoCents in the comments!
