This week, the chefs get treated to a field trip to a meat processing plant with Sous Chef Scott, after only three hours of sleep. Scott prefaces the trip by asking the contestants if any of them were afraid of heights or had a heart condition and offered them bags to throw up into. Nice way to wake up, right? Well, they signed up for it. The nasty tour of the plant leads into Gordon’s meat challenge, where they have to correctly identify eight different cuts of meat and then where it came from on the cow. Simple? Not for these chefs.

  1. This week, the chefs get treated to a field trip to a meat processing plant with Sous Chef Scott, after only three hours of sleep. Seth, who is a strong contender for this season’s most delusional contestant, claims he got seven out of the eight right but actually got seven wrong. Lacey takes the women from only three wrong to six wrong but only after spending a lot of time moving the tags around for no good reason. If you don’t know, dear, at least try to mess it up quickly. Ben wins it for the men, who win a trip on a jet to a winery and yes, this time Robert actually gets to go along. He’s wearing his wedding shoes on the trip and tells the other chefs that he cancelled the wedding to be on Hell’s Kitchen and both he and his fiancée decided this was what was best for them. Aw. So, Robert gets to spend at least part of his wedding day having a nice time at the winery.

The women are forced to spend their day breaking down two whole sides of one cow. That’s bad enough but then they get the news that they’re also supposed to eat all sorts of unpleasant cow bits, like the tongue and kidneys, which doesn’t seem necessary. Andrea gets upset, cries, throws up and then tries to rally the team. Too bad the men show up and mock the women, who aren’t pleased to see anyone having a good time. The men call them bitter, which is tacky but it’s Hell’s Kitchen and that’s to be expected.

At service, it’s steakhouse night and one team cooks while the other serves and later, they switch. The women take twenty minutes to get the tickets in, which sets the men off on a sabotage mission when it’s their turn.

Standouts on the Side of Good:
No one particularly stood out as good this week but there were a few that didn’t stand out at all, which, in this case, would be a good thing.

Standouts on the Side of Bad:
Giovanni – This man works in a steakhouse and should know how to make a steak. He ends up serving the most raw steak I’ve ever seen, which basically looks like it looked at a stove and was declared done. One of the people I watched this episode with likes her steak very, very raw and she even said she wouldn’t eat it.

Ben – He makes the desserts before the appetizers are even sent out! Then, he has the nerve to say in his confessional interview that he’s not familiar with Gordon’s terminology and “f--- me if the words pick and up don’t mean give you the desserts.” That cracked me up but honestly, Ben, pick and up don’t mean that.

Lacey – Genius Lacey once again blames other people for what she does wrong. She forgets to put an order in and didn’t think she should have to tell Gordon she screwed up or that there’s an order he doesn’t know about. Uh, what? Good old JP is flabbergasted and I just can’t believe Lacey is still allowed in the kitchen.

Seth – No big surprise here, Seth wrecks a filet and wastes as much as he used and Gordon throws it at him.

Charlie – He couldn’t remember if he took a table’s order and sends Ben to ask them. Charlie also spills bacon all over the table and a few customers.

Who Wins, Who is Nominated and Who Goes Home:
The men continue to send back steaks, claiming they’re over or under done. Gordon checks each one and tells them they’re cooked perfectly. The women run out of NY strip steaks and time. Gordon declares Lacey and Charlie the worst waiters and the women win. L.A. admits she wanted to lose to get rid of their dead weight. She has a point.

The men nominate Seth and Charlie to go home and Seth wants to poll the other chefs to see if they’re in agreement with the decision. Uh, yes. They are. You are terrible and slightly creepy. Seth says he is absolutely everything—absolutely loves being there, absolutely loves being yelled at, etc. It adds to his creepy factor but somehow saves him. Or maybe the producers do because Charlie goes home. Gordon says he hasn’t seen anything from Charlie yet and he doesn’t stand out. So, I guess it goes to show that it’s better to stand out on Hell’s Kitchen for being a total nutcase than it is to keep to the background and mess up a few things here and there.

So, what did you think? I certainly saw more cow than I ever needed to in this episode. Did you agree with the decision to send Charlie home? We seem to be keeping a lot of the crazier contestants and getting rid of ones that don’t royally screw up the kitchen. Any picks on who you think will win the whole thing? Tell me your TwoCents in the comments!

  2. The eating of awful cow bits was disgusting, and I agree, unnecessary. I'd really, really rather not see people throw up because the producers simple decide to be mean on a cooking show... but anyway. :P

Seth really does kind of freak me out. If I was Ramsey, I would have gotten rid of him for fear I was going to wake up with him hovering over me in my bed, declaring his undying love for me.

L.A. admits she wanted to lose to get rid of their dead weight. She has a point.

Totally agree. Seth is creepy and a crap chef, but Lacy is pathetic. And whiney. And annoying. And Colleen is not much better.
