A security guard in a Guinness World Record Museum hears some noises and goes to check it out. He runs into the culprit who says, “I’ve been casing this joint all week… you were supposed to have been sleeping by now”. He pushes the guard over the railing and he gets impaled to death.

The Murder -
A security guard in a Guinness World Record Museum hears some noises and goes to check it out. He runs into the culprit who says, “I’ve been casing this joint all week… you were supposed to have been sleeping by now”. He pushes the guard over the railing and he gets impaled to death.
Monk is standing on a corner refusing to cross the street, simply because the broken traffic light reads “Don’t Walk”. Then an older woman named Marge helps him cross by taking his arm. He finds out from Stottlemeyer that she complains to the police all of the time for many bogus reasons. Her newest complaint is that her neighbor bought a new set of drums and keeps her up all night. Monk offers her assistance if she wants it next time. Later at the Museum, the gang notices that Togo the egg eating robot is missing. The curator tells them that someone spray-painted over the Togo sign a couple of months ago because he believed that he was the world record holder, and not Togo. Then Monk gets a call from Marge complaining about the drumming neighbor taking him up on his offer. And the drummer happens to be the murderer!
Monk answers her request by coming by and knocking on his door to complain. He knows immediately that Marge was the one that was complaining. He concedes and tells Monk that he will stop. Marge is thankful and has Adrian over for lunch. She tells him sadly that she lost her husband and child. Elsewhere, Stottlemeyer and Disher speak with the man who had defaced the sign at the museum. He tells them that he was at a restaurant when the murder happened. Later that night at a jewelry store a masked man holds the jeweler at gunpoint asking for the stones. The jeweler recognizes the man as “John”. When John takes the mask off, we see it’s the drumming murderer! He kills the jeweler on the spot.
Natalie is surprised to see Marge over Monk’s house, and that he’s allowing her to move his furniture around! When Natalie tells them that Julie is sick, Marge tells Natalie that she can go home to be with her, and that she will be with Monk. Surprisingly, Adrian agrees to the plan! Disher and Stottlemeyer come by later and they tell Marge that they need to talk to her. They tell her that her neighbor is a suspect in the newest murder of the jeweler, but that he has an alibi. He claims that he was home last night and the neighbors have all confirmed that they heard him drumming away. Marge also confirms that she saw him drumming as well. At Dr. Bell’s office, Monk starts to question why Marge cares about him so much, and thinks that she must want something. At the Jewelry store, Monk accuses Marge of being John’s mother and has given him the alibi that he needs. And that this must be why she is being friendly to him.
Later in the day Monk finds himself questioning Marge in a hostile way. Then Natalie walks in and tells Monk that John’s real mother picked him up and paid his bail. Monk feels terrible and tries to apologize to her, but Marge tells him that she “has no son… again”. While they were walking away from her house, Monk notices the same fluid on the ground as they saw in the museum where Togo was stolen. Monk recants how John did it. He put drumsticks in the egg-eating robot’s hands to make it look like he was drumming at a certain time, when in fact he was actually committing the murders. John comes up behind them and holds them at gunpoint, but Disher comes in to save the day.
Monk and Natalie pull up to Marge’s house later and find out that she is moving. Adrian asks if it’s because of him. She tells him that she wants to move in with her equally lonely sister in Seattle, and it’s not because of him. She gives him back a scarf she made for him and tells him to keep himself warm.
This was a quaint episode with a great performance (as usual) by Gena Rowlands. And I enjoyed seeing another episode that delves more into Monk’s emotional side and his apparent issues about not having a motherly figure in his life. Episodes like this one, and others that feature Trudy are always touching and nice to watch. What do you think? And how do you feel about the 7th season so far?
