Obviously, it hasn’t been that long since last week, because everyone wants to kill Tom Ryan. Except for me, of course. Wait, what do you mean I don’t get a vote in this? Oh, that’s right – the TV can’t hear me screaming.

But before we can actually do that (phew), the team gets bad news that Betsy Blane, Jonas’ daughter, has been kidnapped by terrorists in Iraq. Needless to say, they set out to rescue her. Ryan insists on coming along, telling Jonas that Betsy is family to him. Hrm, if you really thought this was a family, maybe you wouldn’t have been sleeping with the wife of one of your men. But that’s just my opinion.

Molly is understandably really, really upset. I used to find her character a little cold and creepy, but I’ve warmed up to her over the last couple of episodes. Jonas tells her if he doesn’t bring Betsy home, neither of them are coming back. If I ever got into trouble, I want Dennis Haysbert coming to save me! Meanwhile, Tiffy figures out that Mack is going to kill Ryan, and begs him not to do it. She says he’ll never see her or the kids again, by which I hope she means he’d be doing time in prison for first-degree murder; if she’s just threatening to walk out on him again, the woman needs to get a grip. How long has her relationship with Ryan been over? Like a year? Move on already. But she doesn’t, going to warn Tom, who seems horribly unaffected. He knows the rules, and he knows he broke them. He’s still getting on that plane anyway. Cue the MOST AWKWARD PLANE BOARDING SEQUENCE EVER.

The team shows up in Iraq and argues a lot with the guy who’s in charge there, who likes to remind them that he’s in charge. Why is it that on TV, the guest star who’s in charge, be it FBI on cop shows or now other military, is almost always some arrogant blowhard? Anyway, nobody cares what he wants. They get the briefing and a video of the ambush, and start to figure out what must have happened. Back home, Bridget – who has somehow figured out how to run the TOC in less than two months on the job, somehow subverting logic and the chain of command – and Kayla start to figure out what to do about Molly and the fallout. Namely, cut her off from the world and let her cry to Kim and Tiffy. Except Tiffy, whom she slaps for alerting Tom and therefore distracting the mission with the fallout from her infidelities. I was wondering when someone would finally call Tiffy exactly what she is, and Molly finally does it. Yay!
The guys all go out to the site of the ambush, which is still swarming with terrorists, even though the ambush happened yesterday. Go figure. Almost immediately, people start shooting and it all gets a little nuts. But seriously, how cool is it to see Charles with a rocket launcher? Or Ryan getting to kick in a door? Or the massive awkward of Mack and Ryan having to work together to go shoot a sniper? I have no idea exactly what’s going on, but hey, it’s fun.

Mack decides to confront Ryan right then. Ryan tells Mack that he was sleeping with Tiffy because he thought he loved her.

    WHAT?!

This is either an incredible lie or the most grievous continuity error this show has ever seen. From early season one, we know there’s no love between Tiffy and Ryan; it’s Kim who says “Ryan’s in it for the thrill.” Not to mention, when Tiffy starts talking about having a future together, Ryan dumps her and runs off to get married. I’m convinced he’s lying, because as he keeps talking, Robert Patrick’s face goes stone cold, and he’s smirking. That isn’t honest feeling, that’s evil. The question is, why is he lying? Probably just to buy himself a couple of seconds until Jonas can turn up and go, “What the hell?” Either that, or the writers have completely lost their character bible.

Bob, however, missed all the fun because he’s finding out from a local that the terrorists actually had two vehicles instead of the one the Army thought, and the real TerrorTruck is heading north, not south. Good to know. Also, Betsy is A) wounded and B) leaving signs for the guys to follow. Bob calls her smart. Well, obviously: look who her parents are!

They follow the trail to a shed where there’s a very booby-trapped soldier tied to a chair. (For some reason, all I can think of is the “Tick Tock Boom” game in this season of The Mole, and Mark and Nicole arguing over if blue and red equals purple.) But it’s not Betsy, it’s one of her missing colleagues. They recover her and head back to base, where Ryan’s apparently having chest pains. Except he’s not, because once they shoot him up with gallium, he bolts and goes to get himself kidnapped. See, gallium is radioactive, so basically if he lights himself up, everyone else can follow him to Betsy. Aha. Genius. Not cool is the fact Bridget is the first to figure out the big answer, again, like she has all season. Wouldn’t it have been cooler if Kayla was in charge? Still, this is the most screen time Robert Patrick’s had all season, so yours truly is a happy camper.

So Ryan and Betsy are trapped in a hole together, the boys are AWOL from the Army going after them, and Molly’s at home getting a visit from two guys from the “special unit.” Really, that’s the best thing we can think of to call the Unit? That’s an old TV show from UPN, isn’t it? Meh. But she’s not happy. At least this episode was amazing, compared to last week.

And apparently next week, Ryan tries to barter himself for Betsy and gets himself beaten up. Yeah, I’m still screaming at my TV. What about you?
