It’s all about respect in the Farmington district this week, as the Mayor issues a list of the top gangs. True to Mackey’s prediction, this incites a gang that didn’t make the cut to shoot three people. After the gang’s leader jokingly suggests that they tie themselves to Al Qaeda, the police almost lose the case to Homeland Security, until Vic brings in the gang leader, and his cell phone leads Vic to the shooter. Losing control in his engineered gang war, Vic looks for respect from Pezcuela. After ordering a hit on Rezian, Pezcuela sees Vic as nothing more than damage control. Shane and Vic scramble to protect the Armenian, who has an insurance policy to kill both of their families if he is killed. After the shooter confesses, Vic gets a rival gang to protect Rezian. When the hit fails, he returns to Pezcuela to demand a hundred thousand per week to be on his payroll.
Billings demands unconditional respect from Dutch, even though he gives minimal effort during the investigation of a killing by cement block. Frustrated by Billings’ challenges to his leadership and by the tenants’ unwillingness to bring forth evidence, Dutch calls for a bus and hauls all the tenants to the Barn for questioning. As the tension grows between them, Billings finally realizes that the tenants are protecting the building manager, who confesses.
During the initial canvassing of the tenants, the respect between Tina and Danny is still at a standstill. Tina instinctively takes the lead during a domestic disturbance with a Spanish-speaking couple. In the course of the resolution, the husband reaches behind the door for his shirt, complying with Tina’s request. Danny, seeing only that he is reaching for something hidden, draws her gun and almost shoots the man. As they return to the Barn, Danny remembers being attacked, and blames Tina for not clearing that room successfully.
One theme, and variations are played out by every character on the show. Great job.
