Finally! The new season is here. With last seasons cliffhanger still fresh in my mind I started to watch this episode. I haven't read any spoilers so I have no idea what is going to happen and I watched the episode without any background knowledge.

And the new season starts with a bang, in Morocco where Ziva obviously working an undercover job. She is singing in a night club when she notices that people are leaving the club rather quickly. Her eyes fall on a suitcase, placed half under a table seconds before it blows up.

Gibbs enters the squadroom and we get some first glances on his new team. Two new special agents both males, one of them is a geek and the other one the typical man who thinks he is better then the others and Michelle Lee who transferred from the legal department. I had expected that not Michelle Lee but Nikki Jardine would have been Ziva's replacement.

Gibbs catches a case and even though it has been four months since the others left his new team has trouble with gearing up. It takes them awefully long to get in the elevator.

Abby cracked me up with her whole speech about Gibbs taking the stairs because he assosciates the elevator with people he wants to forget. He states that he doesn't want to forget them. Then Abby gives him a number 126 and tells him that she never expected that he would let it go that far. Tony, Ziva and McGee have been gone for 126 days. She tells him that he gets ten days to get them back. He tells her that she had a lunch with McGee the day before. Abby tells him that it isn't the same, she wants her three musketeers back. Her final offer is no more then two weeks.

McGee is now working for the cyber crimes unit where he has been working on encoding ... something. It's strange to see the 'geek squad' call McGee boss, it becomes extremely funny when Gibbs is standing behind him asking him 'Boss?'. And McGee jumps up like he always does stumbling over his words. His coworkers call McGee boss because he is the one who gets to walk around with a gun, because he is a field agent while these people are always in the basement working behind their computers. For them McGee is 'the man', he is kind of like a combination between Tony and Gibbs.

Gibbs' case is connected to the bomb explosion of a club in Morocco. And when he and his team are watching images of the scene after the bomb explosion he notices that one of the victims is Ziva. After several different attempts to find out how she is doing he finally gets Ziva on the phone and it is obvious that she has trouble hiding her feelings even though her father, Deputy Director David of Mossad is with her in the same room. Eli David notices how affected his daughter is by her conversation with Gibbs, he sends her home.

Vance reveals to Gibbs that he pulled his team apart because he suspiscions about some of his agents. Gibbs tells him that none of his agents are deceiving their country, and Vance confirms that he didn't suspect Ziva, Tony or McGee. He actually seems to put a lot of trust in McGee and especially in his skills. He tells Gibbs that the three agents that are now part of his team are the ones that he suspected. He thinks that they, or at least one of them is deceiving their country. Because he wasn't sure who it was he thought that if he put them with Gibbs that he would let Vance know if one of them was behaving in a suspicious manner.

The first suspect is Agent Lee, who worked for the legal department before she was moved to Gibbs' team. According to telephone records she called with Fargo a couple of times. However she is able to give Gibbs, Vance and McGee explanations for her calls with Fargo. So they divert their attention towards the other two new members of the team. McGee figures out a not so legal way to find some answers on who is the one that is not quite honest.

They need Tony, he has access to a secure computer and during a conversation he hacks into the system to download a file which McGee needs. Because he is never alone he is talking to Gibbs and McGee as if they are his father and brother, which gives for a really funny conversation. McGee calling Tony a girl, he must have figured that he could say that since Tony is so far away. It was so funny to see that smile on Gibbs' face when they are talking to Tony.

It annoyed me that it seemed as if Jenny had never been there. Sure the 'last season on NCIS' showed the news where it said that Jen was burried. But that was it, and you would say that Gibbs at least held some grudge against Vance. But surprisingly Vance and Gibbs seem to be getting along just fine. Maybe it just has to do with the explanation of why he broke up Gibbs' team. But still I think that Gibbs took that explanation a little too easy. I had hoped that we would get to see a struggle of ego's, flashing glares and harsh words. But all Gibbs asked was when Vance was planning on telling him that.

The same goes for Vance and Deputy director David, they also seem to be best buddies and where acting as if they go years back. The conversation Eli David and Vance had about Ziva was strange too, he was talking about how he made his daughter into the assassin that she is and at the same time he was dreaming about her having kids. About seeing his grandchildren grow up in a secure future. But how can his grandchildren grow up in a secure future when their mother is an assassin.

Anyway we have Ziva back where she belongs in the US at Gibbs' right side. Now we just have to wait till Tony gets back which will probably be next week. I can't wait! See you all next week for the new review.

  2. What did you think about the ending regarding sorting out who was betraying their country? How long do you think it will be before it returns to the storyline?
