This episode is, without a shadow of a doubt, my favorite Gilmore Girls episode, EVER. “The Big One” is filled with excitement, angst, wonderment, sadness, and joy. It features a fight involving Paris and it features wonderful cast returns! Basically, I love this episode.

This episode is, without a shadow of a doubt, my favorite Gilmore Girls episode, EVER. “The Big One” is filled with excitement, angst, wonderment, sadness, and joy. It features a fight involving Paris and it features wonderful cast returns! Basically, I love this episode.

Let’s start with Kirk. He is the town mailman now, and his unique way of sorting the mail gets everyone in town upset, especially a very anxious mother and daughter waiting to hear back from Harvard. Kirk is amazing, and without his little tid-bits, the show wouldn’t be what it was.

Emily doesn’t make an appearance in this episode, because many of her friends are having strokes. Richard is going crazy running the house. Not an important plot point, but still adds comedy to the episode.

Chilton is entering its 200th anniversary so Paris and Rory enter a speech contest. They are not friends at this point, and the headmaster, probably with a vicious mind, tells them that both of their speeches were exceptional, so they have to work on one together. Paris does not like the idea of this, and quite frankly, neither does Rory. Paris ends up coming to Rory’s house to work on the speech where she reveals that her and Jamie (her boyfriend) had sex. I’ll get back to that in a few paragraphs.

Lorelai, with a cold, ends up at a pharmacy near the Gilmore mansion. And whom does she run into? None other than Max Medina, her ex-fiancé and Rory’s old English teacher! It’s an awkward moment, but that doesn’t stop them from locking lips in a classroom at Chilton during the Bicentennial. Oh wow, was it unexpected and so incredibly hot!

In some amazing news, SOOKIE FINDS OUT SHE’S PREGNANT! It’s an amazing moment, and sometimes I even cry when I see it. Jackson’s reaction to the baby was priceless entering panic mode, and unintentionally threatening Lorelai and Sookie with a large knife.

Now, back to the speech (I wish there was an easier way to describe what’s going on, but all the characters are involved in all these aspects that jump around a lot). Paris hasn’t shown up to start the speech, and when she does, her hair is un-brushed, and she’s looking messy. She finally reveals to the entire crowd that she did not get into Harvard. She deserved to get in, obviously, but they had rejected her. The best part of it all, she then reveals to the entire crowd, as well as CNN (the station covering the speech) that she had sex, and that is why she’s not going to Harvard! It was hilarious, but sad at the same time.

This then caused Rory and Lorelai to check the mail, where there were three large envelopes “The Big One[s]” containing acceptance letters to Harvard, Princeton, and Yale. It was a wonderful ending to a wonderful episode.

So, that’s the end of another early episode review. Please join me next week when I review “Those Are Strings, Pinocchio,” the third season finale. I would also love your feedback on which episode you want me to review, because I have some favorites, but I would love to review your favorites as well.
