This week is the return of Roxy! With such a great cast, it’s natural that some episode won’t contain everyone but whenever Jasmine Guy is not in an episode, I think it’s very noticeable she’s not there. But in this episode, she’s very much back and is mourning the anniversary of her death. She spends part of the episode trying to act happy, giving each reaper a balloon at Der Waffle Haus but Rube knows better. Rube always knows better.

This week is the return of Roxy! With such a great cast, it’s natural that some episode won’t contain everyone but whenever Jasmine Guy is not in an episode, I think it’s very noticeable she’s not there. But in this episode, she’s very much back and is mourning the anniversary of her death. She spends part of the episode trying to act happy, giving each reaper a balloon at Der Waffle Haus but Rube knows better. Rube always knows better.
During Roxy’s anniversary, in another part of ReaperLand, it’s Daisy versus the country club queen. With George and Mason’s help, Daisy attempts to scam the son of a wealthy dead woman out of some money. Daisy sets up a fake séance, which Mason tries to amp up by using fans and banging noises at opportune moments. Daisy informs Mason that they don’t need those tricks and that you only need such tricks when you cannot speak with the dead. Oh but Mason, you’re still so very adorable. The scam goes well and the three would have gotten away with it, if it wasn’t for that meddling Rube. He sends reapers dressed as cops to break up the scam, prompting Mason to bail out the kitchen window and George to walk out the kitchen door, two feet to the right. After giving her one of those really special and intense Rube talks, he leaves Daisy handcuffed to a chair in Mason’s house.
We find out Roxy, who was a dancer, was murdered by her roommate because Roxy had invented the million dollar idea of leg warmers. She’s never quite gotten over her death and how could you, really? Especially if someone murdered you over altered socks. Rube helps her burn some of her stuff (from the box marked “Life Stuff”) in hopes that this year will be easier. The last shot of the episode is Roxy hearing a song on a passing car’s radio and then dancing down the street in full meter maid uniform. I love it.
Favorite moments:
+ Roxy ripping up the parking ticket she was going to give to a guy but changed her mind, for once.
+ When George tries to get five days off from work because her “aunt” died and Delores tells her you can only get three days off for relatives that aren’t parents, siblings or grandparents. In a hushed voice, Delores suggests they just say her grandmother died. George whispers back, “Delores, can we do that? I don’t want to break the rules,” in the same tone of voice, which is not nearly as stealthy as Delores thinks it is. Delores responds, “Don’t look now but your grandmother just bought it.”
Next week, I’ll be rewatching and reviewing Nighthawks. It’s a fantastic episode and I hope you all will give it a shot!
