If you’re going to end up with a nickname for your entire undead life, it probably doesn’t get much worse than Toilet Seat Girl. At the same time, if you’re going to be undead and have to hang around other undead people, you couldn’t do better than Rube, Mason, Roxie and Betty.

In this episode, we learn quite a lot. We find out all about reapers, gravelings, what happens to a soul if it’s not taken out of its body after it expires and exactly how patient Rube can be when George doesn’t do the job she’s been assigned. On a personal level, I relearned that Mason is awesome, Roxie is badass and getting totaled by a space station toilet seat is not the best way to go. I also have to mention that Betty’s shot on top of the building in the beginning, with her scarf trailing in the wind is one of the coolest and most memorable shots. Every time I see that shot, I think of how gorgeous the whole image is. I’m not exactly a fan of Rebecca Gayheart but she is pretty amazing right then. Well, her scarf and the wind machine are, actually.

We also get to learn how abundantly unfair death and destiny are. I’m pretty sure most people would have done what George did and try to save Kirsti. Unfortunately, soul expiration is nasty business and the alternative to taking her soul is far worse. But hey, look at the big, sparkly amusement park in the sky. That’s one of my favorite ones of the series. By the way, the song playing in the background during the final few minutes is “Que Sera Sera” by Pink Martini.

    Other favorite little moments:
+ The introduction of Mason and his explaining to the two souls that they don’t deserve his respect. I love that scene from start to finish, especially Rube’s line instructing George to go off with “the nice man.”

+ Apartment searching with Mason and Betty. Telling the very, very angry man he can’t possibly live there because the tenant is dead, finally realizing their mistake and Betty telling him to have a nice week, emphasis on week? Brilliant.

+ Mason’s 2:30. Bank tellers! Gravelings! A bumbling bank robber! The two years (at least) scandalous office affair! Guns in baby carriages! And poor Brendan Marshall Moore. That was quite a 2:30.

It seems all my favorite moments this week involve Mason. Clearly, when all else fails, get yourself a cute, snarky Englishman with a love for vanilla ice cream and the afterlife will seem a million times better.

So what did you think? First timers – did you like it? Repeat viewers – does it still hold up for you? It definitely does for me. Feel free to leave your TwoCents about your favorite quotes and moments in the comments!

Next week, I’ll be taking another look at Dead Girl Walking, episode two. In that episode, we get to know Reggie a bit better and spend a lot more time at Der Waffle Haus. Banana bonanzas all around.
