Remember back in the episode “The Bracket” when Barney tried to figure out what spurned lover was sabotaging his game? Well, it was Abby (Britney Spears) who is, by the way, completely crazy. They do have something in common, though: the hatred of Ted (or, really, the complete undying devotion of Ted which has been spurned). The two hatch a plan to make Ted see the error of his ways. They want Ted to know how lame he is for the bro breakup (which I call the bro-kup) and for dating Stella, Abby’s boss. So they go to the bar posing as a happy couple… dressed in similar outfits and everything.

ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, Marshall and Lily require money. The contractor needs $1,500 more to fix their freakishly slanted apartment (which to me doesn’t sound like all that much). Marshall’s solution: sell all of Lily’s designer duds on the Internet. He even created a website: www.LilyandMarshallselltheirstuff.com. Lily has a better plan: sell her paintings. Marshall inadvertently reveals that he doesn’t think anyone will buy her paintings because they are not that good. Ouch! Game on, Marshall! Lily peddles her first painting in several venues (from museums to the streets of NYC) and is finally approached by a GCWOK (Gay Couple without Kids) who buy it for $500. Score! Too bad they just want the frame. Her painting gets tossed in the dumpster.
Back to Barney and Abby. Their display of coupledom is supposed to make Ted see that he is a loser for wanting a meaningful relationship, but Abby gets too caught up in the charade. When Barney fake proposes, she not-so-fake accepts. Talk about a backfire.
Marshall feels bad that he didn’t support Lily in her quest to sell her art. He decides to find the lost painting and is led to the most unlikely of places: a veterinarian’s office. Seems Lily’s paintings have a calming effect on dogs. They actually go into a sort of trance looking at the painting. The vet commissions more artwork and Lily finds her calling: art for dogs. Also, she is able to keep her snazzy clothes. She and Marshall set up a different website to cater to this new clientele (vets and pet-owners, not the dogs themselves).
The closer finds Barney at Abby’s apartment. She is planning the wedding but Barney has an idea. He tells her he can’t marry her because Ted is in love with her. He gives Abby Ted’s address and tells her to show up around 2 a.m. Thus commences the stalking of Ted. That diabolical Barney!

Britney wasn't so bad I thought. Not great, but she pulled off the flighty airhead girl quite well. And that wasn't an insult. Really!
