My hope is that everything that is happening in this episode is all wondrously set up to re-introduce me to a fabulous show called Grey’s Anatomy. A fabulous ensemble show where every character has a storyline. The story line that I’m actually the most invested in has to be what is currently going on with Alex. Last we left him, we found out that his sometimes-lover Ava/Rebecca/Jane Doe was pregnant with his child - except not – but he doesn’t know that. But this news of him fathering a child is really starting to bring out a side of Alex that is so great to see unfold. Apparently he and Rebecca are already taking preparations to bring their lives together, he’s trying to find her a place nearby to live, and she’s telling her husband that she’s leaving him. Meanwhile, Izzie is deciding to become a real doctor, and she is keeping the truth about the pregnancy results to herself. This is one time, when I would like Izzie to not be a real doctor and tell Alex the truth. It’s going to come back and bite her in the ass, and when it does – I hope it’s for a majestic romantic reunion between her and Alex.

Meredith and Derek’s clinical trial is going well. As well as a clinical trial can go that hasn’t managed to save anybody yet. Their patient today involves a US soldier being treated for the brain tumor. Accompanying him is his VA doctor, his soldier father, and a member from his troop in Iraq. Something is definitely up when his troop member shows up, and all suspicions are confirmed when in a moment when only Meredith is present in the hospital room, they embrace each other and kiss passionately. Now, the only reason I mention this is because their relationship and the soldier with the tumor have a big effect on Meredith. She’s still going to therapy, and dealing with the fact that Derek is with Rose and not her. The patients ends up dying, but Meredith thinks he died a heroic death, not wanting to see his lover one last time to cause any grief, but her therapist clears it up for her. It was cowardly, just like she’s being a coward by not confronting what’s really wrong with her, and why it’s keeping her from being with Derek. While Meredith can’t stop thinking about kissing Derek, he can’t stop thinking about her while he has sex with his girlfriend.

By the way, the only reason Derek and Rose ended up having sex was because Mark called her out on it. You see, regardless of his incredibly sex appeal, the nurses have been complaining that he has sex with them and then they don’t call him back (yet they still continue to pursue him, as Bailey eloquently points out), so they’ve been boycotting his surgeries. So naturally, Mark is mad, and saddened at the fact that he’s finally dealing with the fact that he’s a Manwhore and that people only want him for his body. This revelation leaves a bit of a damper on his and Callie’s sexual trysts in the on-call room, leaving Callie vulnerable and able to admit to Hahn why she’s been so uneasy around her. Things are awkward, but I hope this issue gets resolved soon, and if Callie Torres is to become a lesbian, let it happen naturally, and don’t force it on the audience. I feel that this storyline could go very much in the way that the George-and-Izzie-as-a-couple storyline went – pretty bad.

Cristina is finally being forced to deal with the reality of Burke. The Chief has put up a news article detailing Burke’s latest achievement, a Harpers Avery (or something like that) award. Cristina is hurt, and deals in the way that she knows how, cutting open bodies and singing Madonna, because no where in the article is her name even mentioned. It’s thanks to her that Burke was able to even continue having a career. It seems as if he’s erased that part of his life – like she never existed. This is so sad, especially because I was a huge fan of the Burke and Cristina relationship, and even though I feel that Burke wouldn’t have disregarded Cristina like that, it was a smart move by the writers to finally do away with the Burke character once and for all.

Other minute things to consider in this episode:

Bailey is lonely and sad since her husband left her, and well, humiliated because she’s offended that a woman like herself cannot be viewed as a sexual object.

George is increasingly getting better and better. Can’t wait to see what’s in store for him.

The Chief and Adele get back together at the end of this episode.

For the first time that I can think of, I’m actually rooting for Meredith and Derek. Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey worked so well off of each other in this episode, that I could feel how in sync their characters are with each other – making Rose a complete nuisance. I’m looking forward to seeing Meredith’s journey to adulthood to finally be with the man that she loves. Come to think of it, I’m actually looking forward to the future episodes of this show that I heard about – it’s called Grey’s Anatomy.

Well, that’s all from me . . . any questions, comments, concerns?

  2. I think it's smart that the writers are keeping Meredith and Derek apart romantically. It's giving us time to remember why we fell in love with them being in love.

I want a reunion between Iz and Alex too.

And for the first time yet, George doesn't annoy me.

And Cristina is back and better than ever! Woo hoo!
