Well Betty fans...your long wait is finally over. Betty ...is...back! Our first episode since the writers strike did not disappoint us. As we begin the show we realize it is Betty's birthday and she is going to have the "perfect" birthday. Going away with Henry for a romantic get away and some fireworks .....then she woke up!
So Betty and Henry have plans to to go to the Pocono's for Betty's birthday. She heads on over to Henry's apartment to get an early start, only to find Charlie there. The "baby-mama" is in town to see some baby doctor seminar. Henry said he wasn't going to go with Charlie and they can still go away. Meanwhile Wilhelmina pays a visit to Daniel, warning him to stay away from Renee. She asks him to ask Renee about Stony Brook. Christina gets a bit curious about Renee when she freaks out when a candle is lit.
Betty plans her birthday in N.Y. On Amanda's advice she makes dinner reservations at a special restaurant. I must say, I give credit to Betty using her inner-Mode girl to get a table on the patio.
Daniel asks Renee about Stony Brook to which she just says that it was a college she went to and had a few wild times. Renee then tells Wilhelmina to back off her and Daniel because she is not the only one with secrets. All of this is overheard by Christina by way of baby monitor. Gotta love it!
Alexis tells Claire she has to cut funds to her new magazine "Hot Flash". Claire is not happy. Betty and Claire have a heart to heart in the restroom. Claire says she is going to give up on the magazine, but Betty tells her she can do anything. Claire , touched by Betty's faith in her gives Betty her earrings to wear. So Claire, end up hiring through a work program for recently released inmates, like her.
After Hilda pays Charlie a visit saying that plans are still on for Betty and Henry, Charlie acts sick so Henry won't meet Betty. But when Henry leaves Betty a message that he can't make it, things go awry. Her phone doesn't work properly because Justin bedazzled it. Betty goes to the restaurant waiting for Henry. Gio finds out from Amanda that Henry can't come but Betty doesn't know that. Gio shows up with a horse and carriage to take her for a ride to see the Central Park. But the carriage breaks down and she falls out , ruining her dress. Betty realizes some of this is just like her dream, except it is with Gio instead of Henry.
Renee gets Marc drunk and finds out that Wilhelmina stole Bradford's sperm so she can have an heir and get 1/3 of the Meade empire. So now that Renee knows this, she holds it against Willie and threatens to tell Daniel. So Willie send Marc to Daniel's apartment and has him switch Renee's medication pills. Renee tells Daniel about some medication she is on because she had a breakdown in Stony Brook. Daniel asks Renee to move in with him. So my question is, what will happen while she is off her meds?
Betty comes home late to find Henry sleeping on the couch and the house decorated for her. A birthday present from Daniel is waiting. Henry apologizes that her birthday wasn't perfect. They snuggle on the couch.
Kind of a sad ending.
Well, what did you think? Were the writers back in top form?
I must say, I am not a huge fan of Gio's , but he really came through for her and tried to give her a nice birthday, and I liked that. I was disappointed that there was no special gift from Henry, though. Was anyone else?

Claire: " Betty...I'm so sorry, I try to keep up the appearence I never use the bathroom. I hope you won't think less of me."
Next week: Henry tells Gio to stay away from Betty. Renee thinks Betty has a thing for Daniel and things get a bit dangerous.
