It's 48 Hrs on CSI--only in an hour and without Eddie Murphy or Nick Nolte. Nick and Brass play Nick Nolte to Drops' Eddie Murphy when they let Drops out of prison for 24 hours to help them track down a pregnant killer. Four dead bodies makes for a very murderous CSI.
The episode begins with a bang as a young, blonde woman opens an apartment door and is shot dead. The death toll immediately keeps climbing when another dead woman is found in the apartment directly above the first one.
Victim number one has no identification except for a ring of dollar signs tattooed around her waist, but victim number two, Maria Espinoza, leads the team to Drops. When confronted by Brass, Drops explains that Maria raised him and needed a place to stay, which is why she was in his apartment. He also recognizes tattoo girl as Jessica Jaynes or JJ who worked for him at his club helping create atmosphere and sell drinks, which I, and Brass, immediately assume is code for prostitute.
A puddle of urine at the scene leads the CSI team to Maria Espinoza's daughter Dana aka Drops' very pregnant girlfriend who is also missing in action. Drops suggests Brass and Nick let him out of prison, so he can track Dana down for them. Brass and Nick decline at first, but when text messages on JJ's cell phone lead them to a very dead Valinda Carlisle, victim number three, Drops gets his wish.
Nick attaches a GPS tracking device to Drops' snazzy-suited leg and they're off to find Dana. Their first stop is Drops' accountant Zig Zag—who is also dead. Drops suggests trying Dana's step-sister Sherry next. Sherry is actually alive—a first for this episode—and Drops convinces Nick and Brass to let him approach Sherry alone. Sherry, naturally, spots the cops immediately, but helps Drops plot his escape from Nick and Brass anyway.
After drawing down on Drops over a bag of chicken gizzards, they head to Drops' after hours club to look for Dana. There his club manager gives Drops a GPS-blocking sandwich (yummy!). Drops escapes under the cover of searching for some mayonnaise. Yes, mayonnaise. Nick and Brass realize, too late, that the mayonnaise was just a clever ruse, and while Nick tries chasing him down, Drops gets away.
He heads right to his apartment where JJ's husband, Walter, is holding Dana hostage. It turns out that Drops owed JJ money and Walter wants payback in the form of the money, which Drops has hidden in the couch instead of in his 401K. Walter also wants payback for JJ's death, since Dana was the one who killed JJ after JJ killed her mother. Drops gets to choose: Dana or their baby.
Drops decides not to choose, but does manage to turn off his GPS blocking device, which brings Nick and Brass and a billion cops to the apartment building just in time for Dana to get shot, Drops to get shot, Walter to get shot, and Dana's water to break.
At the hospital, Dana decides that she'd rather not have her son raised by a man who would put her life and her mother's life in danger. She takes the baby as Drops heads back to prison. But, there's a silver lining in the form of the money couch. Because the couch was in Maria's apartment, Dana, as her sole heir, inherits the money.
The Good
The hawkeye. I love that Grissom decided to use his science toy instead of just waiting for the police officer to go upstairs and find the next victim. Why wait when you can play with a cool toy?
When Grissom goes all Dexter over the perfectly round drop of blood.
The Bad
Even I figured out that Drops had left a message with Sherry, so I was completely unsurprised by his escape, unlike Brass and Nick.
JJ's creepy husband, in the morgue, commenting on how they had nearly finished all her money tattoos. Okay, less bad, and more ew.
The Science
They track prisoners with GPS devices that can be that easily blocked? Maybe it's just me, but that seems like kind of a bad idea.
Text messages are stored on a server and not just on our phones? Seriously? I am clearly very naïve.
Well, that's my Two Cents. What's yours? Was this episode more 48 Hrs than CSI? Too many dead bodies? Or not enough? Did you enjoy Drops' interactions with Nick and Brass as much as I did or did you yearn for Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte? (Probably not a question that you ever thought you'd be asked). Do you think Dana did the right thing taking her baby away from Drops? Discuss below while I go delete many, many text messages off my cell phone.
