"Survivor:China" Recap & Review - "Week 4"

Survivor: China

Week 4

Original Air Date: October 11, 2007

Josh - TwoCents Staff Writer

Lack of food and comfort is taking its toll on our survivors and tempers are flaring at both camps. At Fei Long, Courtney tells Jean-Robert to stop yelling at her. This was all over the fact that Jean-Robert yelled ‘Don’t touch it!’ to Courtney to stop her from potentially burning her hands. After almost having his torch put out last week, Jean-Robert has picked up the slack around camp and reminds us that he’s a poker player. What that had to do with him not going home I’m not really sure.

At Zhan Hu tempers flare after discovering the rice is covered in mold and will need to be kept in a new container. Dave gets into it with Sherea so Sherea takes a bowl with Dave’s seashells in it and goes to throw them away…and suddenly I’m not sure if I’m watching Kid Nation or grown ass adults fighting over…seashells? Dave whines “give them to me!” and Sherea dodges and screams “Step back!” Luckily Frosti steps in and disarms the situation before Dave starts crying.

Reward challenge is held at the temple used for Tribal Councils and involves picking up balls of fire with three sets of giant chopsticks. Each set is longer then the one before and the point is to carry the ball to a shute which ignites fireworks. Fei Long takes the win and kidnap Dave. Reward is that a fishing family will come to the camp and teach them how to fish and make them a big dinner.

Fei Long quickly discovers why Dave is not very well liked on Zhan Hu. Only at Fei Long Dave seems to be very hands on and can’t stop hugging everyone. And James is not having at all. Crafty little Todd knows that Dave will be giving someone a clue to immunity so he quickly befriends him, and it works, as Dave gives Todd the clue.

The native fishing family arrives and Jean-Robert starts speaking in Mandarin Chinese to the surprise of his tribe and viewers at home alike. James exclaims ‘there are childrens!’ like he thought the “childrens” would be dinner. For the first time this season we actually see Denise speak and she reminds us she’s a lunch lady and is used to making nuggets. No really, she said that. If you were expecting Fei Long to be fishing with the normal poles and bait you’d be wrong. The old man brings out a boat full of ducks that are trained to fish. I’m still not exactly sure how this works but it was fascinating to watch. When a bird catches a fish, the old man grabs the bird by its throat and pushes the fish back out its mouth.

There’s a big feast, Jean-Robert gets on peoples nerves, and the family leaves…taking their ducks with them! I thought the point of reward was to teach them how to fish, but they took all they’re fisherduck’s with them. Is Fei Long supposed to train their own ducks?

At Zhan Hu, they’re relieved to have a break from Dave…except for the part where he did everything around camp. The tribe comes together to get the work done while Sherea watches from the comfort of the hut. She makes some excuse about conserving energy for challenges and she proves her worth at them. If this speech sounds familiar it’s because Jean-Robert gave the same one last week.

The immunity challenge is a sport involving ancient Chinese armor, a couple of rocks tied with a rope that you need to swing at the opposite teams glass vases on sticks. The team who knocks off the most, wins. Fei Long wins, but Zhan Hu only lost by a point or two.

It’s clear who’s on the hot seat at Zhan Hu this week. It boils down to Sherea for being lazy, Dave for being…well, Dave. The rest of Zhan Hu go through their list of reasons of who should go and why and it’s still not clear by the time they go to TC. Sherea lies through her teeth in response to Jeff’s question about everyone pulling their weight at camp and judging by the faces of her tribe mates it seems clear that Sherea will be the one taking the walk of shame tonight, only she’s not...Dave is, becoming the 4th person voted out of Survivor China.
