Thanks to life getting in the way, I’ve missed recapping two episodes. But I’m back, so let’s get to it, shall we?

Street and Riggins travel to Mexico where Street is pinning his hopes of walking again on an experimental stem-cell surgery. But the doc’s gone, so the boys must make some memories for a week in our neighbor to the south. In the meantime, the Dillon Panthers are mired in a less than productive version of Smashball, which isn’t working out as well as new coach McGregor had hoped.

They lose the game and he, thanks to some not-so-subtle maneuvering by Buddy Garrity to bring back Coach Taylor, loses his job. Of course, Riggins isn’t around to block for Smash thanks to his Mexican road trip with Jason, so that could have been part of the problem.

Saturday afternoon during a TMU home game, Buddy calls Coach Taylor and tells him it’s a done deal – McGregor’s out and he’s back in – which means Eric’s coming home to Dillon, y’all! Of course, McGregor doesn’t go down without a fight, but eventually he leaves clearing the way for Coach’s triumphant (maybe, we’ll see next week) return to the Panther sidelines. Hopefully he can work his magic to keep Smash and Matt from tearing each other apart.

Lyla has befriended a young juvenile delinquent she met doing ministry work for her Christian teen group, and she even convinced Buddy to give him a job at the dealership to help him stay on the straight and narrow. There is definitely some electricity between Lyla and her “project” so that should be interesting to watch.
Julie and Mrs. Taylor are still butting heads before Coach comes home, but once he’s back they seem to start finding their way back to each other, especially after Tami reveals that she too, had a ‘thing’ for an older guy à la The Swede. Things seem to be dying down on the Swede front though after Julie comes to the realization that his lifestyle (read: beer and bongs) isn’t really what she was imagining it would be.
As for the murder mystery part of the show…Landry’s father is asked to help investigate after a body is found washed up on the riverbank.

Landry panics and wants to turn himself in, saying he can claim self-defense, but Tyra talks him out of it. Eventually the police call Tyra and bring her in for questioning, but it’s only to confirm that he was the man that had attacked her the previous fall, nothing more. How much longer can these two keep this secret under wraps?

Riggins realizes he won’t be able to prevent Street from undergoing the experimental surgery so he calls Lyla for help. But she’s skeptical and we’re left wondering if she’ll make it down to Mexico in time to help Riggins and Street—if at all. Until next week, remember: clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose!

    Final grade: B
