In the first part of the Daniel Faraday Hour of Crying, Desmond and Penny are in Hawking comes to talk to Penny, and tells her she’s to blame for Desmond being shot because of her son, who is not Ben Linus. 30 years earlier, we see Faraday getting out of the submarine and asking Miles to take him to Jack. He tells Jack that they never should have come back, and his mother was wrong. Or was she?

In a flashback, little Daniel’s piano-playing dreams are crushed when his mother tells him he has to be a scientist. He says he can “make time” (to play piano) and she says “if only you could.” (She isn’t talking about the piano.) While Miles drives Daniel to the Orchid, Jack tells Sawyer that Daniel is back. Phil is still locked in the closet because he found out that Sawyer and Kate took Little Ben to the hostiles. At the Orchid, Daniel tries to convince Pierre Chang that they need to evacuate the island because in 6 hours, a catastrophic event will occur. How does Daniel know this, Chang asks? Well, thanks to Lost’s lame one-liner of the night, it’s because he’s “FROM THE FUTURE!” Dun dun duuunnnnn…

But Daniel also seizes this opportunity to be a douchebag and tell Chang that Miles is his son. Not cool, dude. Miles, who still has some sense, denies it. In the past, Daniel’s mother takes him to lunch (but NOT with his girlfriend Teresa), and he tells her he got a research grant from Charles Widmore. They argue, and before she leaves she gives him a present: his journal. Inside, she writes that she’ll always love him no matter what.

Back in Dharmaville, Sawyer thinks they should leave either by taking the sub or by heading into the jungle. Hurley and Jin don’t want to take the sub, which is so the option I would’ve picked. It’s 1977, and Zeppelin doesn’t break up for 3 more years, so they just missed a chance for the concert of a lifetime. Morons. Moving on…Faraday and Miles show up, and Daniel asks where he can find the hostiles, because one of them is his mother and she’s the only person who can get them back to the time they’re supposed to be in.

Past Daniel is watching footage of the fake plane crash of flight 815 and crying, and Widmore comes in. Daniel starts crying about how he tested something on himself and now has a “condition,” which I don’t buy because regular Daniel cries just as much. Ergo, maybe he’s just emo. Widmore offers him a “new opportunity,” which in Widmore-speak is being given the chance to feel good for like 5 minutes before a smoke monster eats you, or Ben shoots you in the face. He tells Daniel that the crash is a fake, and that the Island will make him better.

Daniel tells Sawyer that they met his mother in 1954, which was Fonzie times according to Hurley. Sawyer acts way too protective of Kate, so Juliet gives her the fence code and tells her to take Daniel and get up out of her business. In the creepiest moment of the night, Daniel goes to see little Charlotte and tells her she should leave, and to my surprise, Chris Hansen did not pop out of the bushes and put him on Dateline. While trying to get guns, Dan, Jack, and Kate get in a gunfight with Radzinsky and some Dharma guys. For the first time in this episode, Daniel gets shot. Past Daniel is playing piano as an adult when his mom comes in. He agrees to go to the island because it will make her proud. Radzinsky finds Phil in Sawyer’s closet and holds them at gunpoint, while Daniel explains that because of the catastrophe that’s about to happen, the hatch will be built, and if they can stop it, their plane will never crash. But they’re gonna need a bomb to make it happen.

Back in the hospital, Eloise tells Penny she doesn’t know what’s going to happen. Desmond survives the gunshot, and Widmore finds Eloise and gets slapped after saying Daniel is his son too. Daniel walks into the hostiles’ camp, asks where the bomb and Eloise are, and then Eloise shoots him. It was her Ben moment, and it was cold. Who goes back in time to get shot by their mom? I thought this episode had its’ entertaining moments, but overall Faraday was too one-note. Though, I did like the Widmore parts, because dude was hilarious on Flight of the Conchords.
