Apparently, I was the only person unimpressed by last week’s episode but that’s fine by me. Everyone’s a critic, right? I was so looking forward to a showdown between Sylar and Danko and all the little mind games that I couldn’t see the forest through the trees. I was promised something better though, and I eagerly anticipated what the writers had in store for me.

Apparently, I was the only person unimpressed by last week’s episode but that’s fine by me. Everyone’s a critic, right? I was so looking forward to a show down between Sylar and Danko and all the little mind games that I couldn’t see the forest through the trees. I was promised something better though, and I eagerly anticipated what the writers had in store for me.
Angela and Peter are on the run from Danko’s men, who are now led by Noah. Danko feels that Bennet has something to prove because he was close to Nathan. It was actually not the best move, seeing as how Noah and Angela go back pretty far. Peter hides his mother in a church and they both pray; he goes so far as to ask God to please step up to the plate and at least show up every once in a while. Hasn’t he ever seen Battlestar Galactica? God does not take well to threats, and so Noah’s team arrives. As Angela and Peter hide in the confessional she breaks down and tells him everything; how she came into her ability and tried to change the world but couldn’t, so she did it through manipulation and lies. Noah busts in and (thank God?) tells his mean that the area is all clear. So, Angela is given another escape, and she and Peter go together.
Last time we saw Nathan, he was rescuing Claire from Danko’s men. They fly together to Mexico and I can already hear the fanfic writers going. Anyway, she pawns her necklace that Noah gave her for cash, and Nathan decides to turn that money into more. He heads into a tequila shot contest with what look to be college frat guys. When there’s all but one guy left after 22 shots, Nathan finally passes out. Claire freaks because they can’t lose what little money they have, so she asks the guy for a rematch. Thinking she’ll be an easy win, she catches up first and keeps going. Turns out her healing ability extends to her liver so she can’t get drunk. (In watching this, I realize that is exactly the ability I need.) Back in the hotel room and while he’s drunk, Nathan spouts off that he’s going to bring an end to everything for Claire and his family, but in the light of sober day he redacts what he said. Claire gets teary and tells him that she used to think he was the most amazing man she’d ever met (what?) and that could do anything. He was supposed to be her Superman. She’s standing at a bus stop, ready to go back to the states when Nathan presents her with the necklace she’d pawned. He traded his watch for it, and he tells her that he’s flying out. Claire smiles and walks arm in arm with him. It seems their heart to heart has inspired him to try and be a father.
Meanwhile, instead of an epic showdown between the two of them, Sylar tells Danko that in order to get all the people with abilities, he’ll need help. There’s a shape shifter on the loose and Danko agrees to Sylar’s proposal because as it turns out, he has no idea how to track someone who can keep changing their appearance. Sylar concludes that the shape shifter takes on the personas of men in power, and that his MO is to go to the same club every night to pick up ladies. On this night, he’s at his favorite haunt and has shifted to look like Danko. Awesome. When he realizes he’s being watched, however, he shifts into Sylar and Danko tells him it’s time to leave. One outside though, Danko shoots the shape shifter and the real Sylar appears. He takes the shape shifter’s power empathetically, and then buries a knife in the back of his head to make it look like Sylar was finally murdered. In the morning, Bennet looks over the body while a female crime scene investigator gets into the car with Danko. And guess what? It’s shape shifting Sylar! It turns out, it’s easier to track people with the government thinks you’re dead and Danko ironically points out that if this works, and Sylar gets all the people with abilities he’ll be the only one of his kind left. Sylar simply smirks, and they drive off into to be continued land.
So, what did you all think? While I reallllly wanted that show down? I like the idea of Danko and Sylar working together because it is the most improbable situation I could have thought up. Also in watching this episode, I decided that I like it more when the writers focus on maybe one or two huge plots and save all the random stuff and spread it out. More than two major plot lines going at once seem to make everything confusing, but this episode was nice. I’d love to hear your thoughts, so shoot me an email or leave your Two Cents in the comments!
