Last we left off, General Juma was taking an unauthorized tour of the White House. And he is planning to have President Taylor make her last statement ever. How the heck is Jack going to get out of THIS one?

The Vice President is still not allowing an attack on the White House without knowing for sure that President Taylor is secure. Inside, Jack has different plans. He tells Bill that he’s let some C4 gas from the lockdown room out into the hall and potentially create an explosion to take out Juma’s men by lighting a spark. The President asks Juma to release the hostages if she will read his statement. He “releases” one of them by shooting him in the head!

    8:06

The President starts reading her prepared speech over the airwaves, much to the Vice President’s chagrin. Larry calls in and pleads with the VP to allow him to move in his team, but he refuses not wanting the President to be harmed. Bill tells Jack that he saw Juma speaking with someone on the SAT phone and thinks that there is another plan happening. He asks Jack to follow up on that lead and then rushes up to the lockdown room and fires a pistol creating an explosion. Larry then ignores the Vice President’s order and rushes the White House. Jack takes out some of Juma’s bad guys as the FBI comes pounding in. Aaron grabs President Taylor and Olivia to take them to safety. Senator Mayer almost takes a bullet but Jack shoots his killer first. (Who didn’t see that coming?). Then finally, Jack faces down Juma and shoots him dead. The President gets secured when Larry and his team arrives. But Jack has realized that Bill was killed in the blast.

    8:18

Renee approaches Jack to console him for the loss of his friend. He tells her that he was supposed to be the one to set off the blast. He asks Larry if he can talk to Burnett and find out whom Juma was talking to, and gives his word that he won’t touch him. Larry tells him that he’d look into it, and has Jack handcuffed and taken in to custody. Renee locates Ethan and tells him about the situation, going over Larry’s head. Meanwhile, Jonas is befuddled that Juma’s plan didn’t work. But confirms that his shipment of weapons is coming and he plans to use them.

    8:28

Ethan calls up Larry and orders him to have Jack question Burnett. President Taylor tells Ethan that she wants Olivia on her staff to help. Ethan disagrees and reminds her (what we didn’t know) that Olivia hurt her election leaking out personal information about her opponent. But she still wants her in the loop and asks Ethan to make peace with her. Elsewhere, Larry confronts Renee about her going behind his back to Ethan; She apologizes but tells Larry that Jack has been right through everything that’s happened so far. He tells her to go back to the office and clean out her desk. He suspends her and tells her that he doesn’t trust her anymore.

    8:40

Jonas is already planning attacks and is looking at targets around Washington. He finds out that Jack is on his way to question Burnett. Greg tells him that he’s sent his man Quinn to kill Burnett and take care of Bauer. Quinn makes himself known by smothering a random patient to death who just had heart surgery, just so he can have access to the nurse’s station. He then takes over the video surveillance of the rooms. Back at the White House, Ethan offers Olivia the job of Special Adviser to the President. Surprisingly. she blames Ethan since all of this happened under his watch. She tells him that she won’t give up until she gets the truth about the corruption in the government.

    8:53

Jack enters Burnett’s room under Larry’s watchful eye. Just then, Quinn cuts off communication from Larry’s station to the room. Then he drops some paralyzing gas into the room and Jack drops to the floor. He comes through the ceiling and slits Burnett’s throat and stabs him in the chest. As Jack starts to come to, Larry gets the real feed and sees Burnett dead. Jack sees the opening in the ceiling and climbs up to follow Quinn as Larry busts in. He orders the hospital to be locked down and Bauer to be captured. Jack then calls Larry and tells him the truth of what happened. Larry tells him to come in and they’ll work it out together, but Jack declines. He knows that he’s being framed and wants the real killer to think that the FBI has been fooled. Then Jack escapes and runs off into the night.

Another jam packed episode with lots of stuff going on. Obviously. The biggest news was Bill Buchanan dying. I had a feeling that this was going to happen, but I was hoping it wouldn’t. Bill has been with us since season 4 when he came in to take over CTU. I’ve really grown to like him, and equally I’ve started to expect a major character dying every year on this show. Which character did you find to be the toughest to lose over the years? I guess it could have been Tony, though it turns out he’s alive. Seeing David Palmer get killed was no fun either. What do you think?

  2. Am I the only person who was really, really relieved that Aaron Pierce made it?

  3. No Brittany.... I was the same way.

And I was expecting (and cursing the fact) that Bill was going to be killed.

But if I HAD to choose? I'd rather keep Aaron.
