Senator Mayer is lying dead in his doorway. The FBI and Chief of Staff think that Jack Bauer has killed him. Jonas Hodges’ shipment of WMD’s has landed on U.S. soil and he plans to use them. Ulp.

    10:05

President Taylor is on the phone with Henry who has come out of his surgery. She updates him on catching (some) of the people responsible for Roger’s death and her reconciliation with Olivia. Ethan comes in the office to tell her about Mayer. He then surprises the President with his resignation. He thinks that his decision to let Jack go will affect her office and he doesn’t want that to happen. She begrudgingly accepts. Elsewhere, Jack and Tony are at the docks preparing to look through the containers to hopefully find the WMD’s. He meets up with a security guard and puts a gun to his head. He wants to see the manifests for the day.

    10:16

Jonas has a meeting with the board of directors at Starkwood. He tells them not to worry about the inquiries of the government, and says that he will no longer comply with their requests. He tells one of the board members outside of the meeting that Mayer was killed. He claims that he had no involvement with the murder of him. Meanwhile, Jack is trying to find out where the container for the weapons is. Carl (The guard) admits that he worked out a deal with someone who he thought was legit to keep security down that night and that they were on the way. He needed the money. (We’ve heard THAT before). They arrive and Jack tells Carl to open the gate as normal. Carl asks Jack to promise that he’ll have his back when he goes to the gate, and Jack does.

    10:29

Carl opens the gate for Hodges’ men nervously. The head guy tells him to lead them to the correct container. Tony tells Jack that they both knew the guy signed his death warrant the minute he agreed to open the gate. Back at the White House, Ethan gives some parting advice to Olivia about not confusing the idea winning an election and running a country. After he leaves, she calls the reporter to tell him he can run the story about Ethan and Jack.

    10:39

Larry calls in to Renee to question her further about Jack. Evidence shows that a third party was at Mayer’s house and he wants to know what she knows. She finally gives up what she knows about Jack and Starkwood. At the docks, they tell Carl that he has to go back to the truck to get paid. Jack follows his conscience (and goes against Tony’s wishes) to go save him. He takes out the killer with a silencer to save Carl. Now they have to prepare for a firefight. Once they discover that one of their own have been killed, Jack and Tony start shooting at them. Even though they take out a couple bad guys, the truck is loaded and is sent off with the weapons. Jack runs after it and climbs up on top of some containers, and then jumps onto the moving truck with the weapons. He takes over the truck and looks to drive it away safely. Unfortunately, Hodges’ men have captured Tony.

    10:54

Jack calls Larry and tells him what’s happening. He tells Larry that he expects the terrorists to come after the truck, and that Tony has been captured. Something starts beeping in the back so Jack pulls over to see what it is. Apparently in the fight part of the truck was torn through and part of the weapon is leaking gas! Jack holds his breath and goes in to turn it off. Just then, Jack is under attack by a speeding SUV and a helicopter. Jack has to run away from the shooting and the copter is able to hook up the weapon and hoist it away. Jack calls Larry to update him to what’s happening. He also tells Larry that he’s been exposed to the agent.

Anytime you have a gunfight in a 24 episode, you always have a leg up. I was happy to see Jack save poor Carl. I actually had a feeling he was going to do that. I’m interested to see if Olivia has any more surprises for us. I’ve also very much grown to like Larry and Renee as characters. I wonder if either of them will make it through the season, or potentially come back for season 8? And finally I was pleasantly surprised to see Meredith Salenger show up in a tiny scene as Carl’s very pregnant wife. What? Am I the ONLY one who had a crush on her when they were 19? No wonder why Carl wanted to live. So.. what did you think of all this? Do you think Jack will be poisoned? Were you ever jealous of Corey Feldman? I thank you for your two cents.
