Since we last saw Oceanside Wellness, Charlotte and Cooper have gotten back together, but then he moved in with Violet. She’s pregnant, but is unsure whether it’s from Pete or Sheldon’s. Addison’s brother Archer has moved to L.A., begun dating Naomi and is having seizures caused by inoperable parasitic bugs - in his brain.
Last week started a three-week overlap of story lines between Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice, so if this gets a bit confusing … that’s just because, well, it is! Be sure to check out our recaps of Grey’s Anatomy so you can keep up!

Addison and Naomi race Archer to Seattle so that Derrick can pull a God card & heal him. Derrick finds out that there is not just one parasitic bug in there, but eight. Yuck factor of 12. As he is performing the surgery to remove the nasty little beasts, he screws up on the last one and looses the sucker in Archer’s brain for 2 minutes and 23 seconds. We know this because Archer’s heart stops suddenly as the last wormy goes wandering, somehow when Derrick retrieves it the heart starts again. Is any of that supposed to be believable? Apparently a few former soap opera writers have joined the staff.
Meanwhile Derrick’s pregnant aneurysm patient (this is a continuation from the Grey’s storyline) develops post-op complications and can’t breathe. He (naturally) asks Addison to step in and assist. “House” fans will recognize this story line: the mother isn’t really sick; her symptoms are mirroring complications occurring in the baby. Since the mother is in such fragile condition, Addison suggests delivering the baby. That would cure the mother and she has a great track record with 24-week preemies. Derrick wants to do an in-uteruo procedure that would potentially cure the baby but is much harder on the already sick mommy. Mommy, obviously, picks Derrick’s solution. Addison tries to take his head off for stepping up to be the big hero but leaving her to do all the hard work. They have this fight during the surgery, and yet still manage to save the baby & the mommy. Yeah!
But back in L.A. there is still work to be done. Cooper has his own mommy/baby issues with a patient and asks Violet to assist. It seems to be normal new mommy stuff: baby won’t sleep, mom is overwhelmed, baby slips in the water but isn’t hurt, and mommy just needs more sleep. But then she starts rambling. Violet suspects postpartum psychosis which is confirmed when mommy rambles her way into admitting that she tried to drown the baby, but stopped herself before any damage was done. While Violet calls the husband to inform him, she asks Pete to give the mommy acupuncture to calm her down and help her sleep. Pete soon realizes he’s been duped and gets upset at being used as a babysitter. Once they get the mom admitted for a psych evaluation, the three doctors begin to argue over whether the mom should be allowed to see the baby. Violet is torn, Cooper says no and Pete says yes. Turns out Pete is upset that Violet is cutting him out of what could be his kid’s life.
Background story lines for the week:
Charlotte is leaving Cooper because his first baby was supposed to be hers. She can’t handle watching Cooper and Violet look like a family, no matter how much Cooper protests. I’m forced to admit that I agree with Charlotte and that I’m starting to like the girl … dang it.
Dell delivered his first baby … and was a hovering mess afterward. Poor guy was worse than the new mommy!
Sam has a huge asthma attack which Addison and Sloan chalk up to him not being over Naomi. They think seeing Naomi fawn over Archer is causing him distress. Turns out that he is allergic to the generic form of his asthma inhaler. This is another Grey’s continuation: when his ran out, Bailey refilled it for him & gave him the wrong kind, not knowing his history, and this led to the major attack. Sam is vindicated and he claims to officially be over Naomi. Anyone else see the foreshadowing here?
Did I miss the hiring of new writers? This week came off more soap-opera-ish than we’ve seen previously. Am I the only one who thinks the Cooper/Violet storyline needs to either move along or die quickly? Either one, just pick a team & play already. Raise your hand if you cried watching the team reunite Momma & Baby, and then heal another Momma’s baby? Sniff If I’m alone on that we’ll just chalk it up to my own postpartum hormones! Who do we need to petition to give Dell a real story line? The poor boy is floundering over in labor & delivery.
What are your two cents? Love it? Hate it? Wanna see Addison back with the SWAT team hottie? Tell us in the comments!
Parasitic bugs? Are you kidding me? I feel like I should go take a shower!
ReplyDeleteAs for the teary-eyed stuff, I would also like to chalk my response up to postpartum hormones (even though my baby just turned one)!
