Tonight Bear will be doing a retrospective of some of his journeys to give us a guideline for survival tips. Hopefully we won’t need to use any of them.

After a medley of some of his toughest drop-offs into the tough regions, Bear starts his how-to checklist.

    1. Get your bearings. Whether it is getting to high ground to see where you are, or use knowledge of the area you need to plan where you’ll be going.

    2. Find water! You can survive 3 weeks without food, but not 3 days without water. You’d be surprised at the many different ways and places that you can procure it.

    3. Protect yourself as your environment demands. He shows us the many ways to cover your skin and body to lessen the chance of pain or exhaustion. And you can avoid certain critters if you use the right cover.

    4. Always wait for a rescue. But if a rescue isn’t coming you’ll need to keep moving on and find ways to do it quicker. Traverse a river or even slide down a surface if it saves time for you.

    5. Even though you may be prepared, there will always be surprises in any hostile environment. Always pay attention to your surroundings.

    6. Making a shelter is always a good way to increase your chance of survival. Make your shelter to fit the geography and environment as protection to the elements. Be wary of the predators of the area as well.

    7. Another key piece of survival is building a fire. It boosts morale, keeps you warm and you can cook whatever dinner you’ve caught in it. It’s important to find the right material for tinder to start your fire. And there are many ways to find it.

    8. Something he always tells us to keep up hope. Hope and desire to survive is half the battle for survival. It may seem like there isn’t a solution to your problem, but there almost always is a better way if you have the right attitude.

    9. If you want to survive you’ll need energy, and that means you’ll need food. Bear reminds us that you can’t be squeamish when it comes to surviving. And you may have to be creative by setting a trap or snare to catch your prey.

    10. Finally, you want to look for the best way to be rescued. You may use a raft, a river, or even a train. You also want to be seen by a possible rescuer, so that may mean getting to higher ground or making a signal fire.

This was another nice retrospective of some of Bear’s adventures. When you see everything in one episode like this, you realize how amazing it is with the work he puts into each episode. I can imagine him being a grandfather someday showing his grandkids what he used to do for work. This show will be a great time capsule for him and his family. And it’s great entertainment for us. What do you think of the medley episodes? Your two cents is always appreciated.
