Kendrick’s jaded grandchild offers the line that gives the episode its title, as Frobisher looks for redemption, Ellen looks for answers, and the closest of allies may be moving against their superiors. Nice to see how events are playing out in more than one camp. The show balances the Hewes, Frobisher and Kendrick storylines nicely, as each group is put in jeopardy by the people who know where the bodies are buried. Come to think of it, they all may have done some of the digging.

Uncle Pete has been a constant, unsettling presence since the first episode. As Ellen watches him exit her office unexpectedly, she tips off the FBI, who uncovers the history between him and Patty. Staking out his side business trafficking stolen goods, they are able to arrest him. With a wife slowly dying at home, the agents use that leverage to get him to roll over on Patty. But when he guides them to the locker, it’s empty, and they find that he has downed a bottle of his wife’s pills. The previews for next week tell us he’s not dead, but he may be a key player.

On the Frobisher side, Messer is just as creepy, but nobody calls him “uncle” or tries to sugarcoat who he is. He interrupts Frobisher’s quest for serenity to warn him away from Patty and out of the limelight. When reminded of Katie Connor, Frobisher says, “I’ve moved on.” The ice cold Messer replies, “You don’t get to do that.” He is just as methodical with Wes. When he says that Ellen is giving him no input on her investigation into Frobisher, Messer directs him to shift his attention to Katie. The thought had been that he was protecting Frobisher. But Patty finds out about the private security firm with ties to Katie’s attacker and Frobisher, so it’s looking more and more like Messer will go through anyone, including Frobisher, to protect his private matters.

Kendrick sends Claire to defend an escort picked up on cocaine charges. The girl had been partying with Finn Garrity, a stock trader who, as Tom figures out, deals exclusively in energy. The lapse in trading time allows Kendrick’s stock to keep dropping, but he is rounding up investors for a cash infusion. None of this seems to set well with Claire, who is more perturbed about being kept in the dark. Some sort of secrets are also passed to Finn through GPS codes, but this is not spelled out yet.

So there’s my two cents…I’d love to hear where your thoughts. Drop in your comments or send me a note at: tom@thetwocents.com.
