So, here’s the thing. If you watched the episode on Friday then you know my recap could easily be: “OH GODS; GUNS BLAZING AND FRAKKIN’ CHAOS!”. However, because I am a professional, I’m going to try and be just a bit more coherent for you all. Still, there was a lot of action and an action recapper I am not so you’ll just all have to bear with me. There aren’t even five things that happened, just one large epic event.

In what we can assume are the morning hours, Tigh arrives in Bill’s quarters and while they’re talking, Laura comes out wrapped up in Bill’s robe and practically dares Tigh with her eyes to comment on the fact that she spent the night with the Admiral. He doesn’t and after he leaves, Laura banters with Bill that she’ll try to have supper waiting for him when he gets home. Little do either of them know, Gaeta and his new boyfriend Tom Zarek have been plotting to take over Galactica.

After breaking Zarek out of the brig, Gaeta coordinates the way off of Galactica so that Zarek can get back to Colonial One. In the process, a deck hand gets killed and it seems that all of the military is in on Gaeta’s take over. A whole series of lies later, Gaeta demands the arrest of Adama and Tigh, and takes over control of the ship. He cuts communication with all of the other ships in the fleet but you can tell in Adama’s face that he will not be marched to his own damn brig. In the hallways of Galactica, he fakes out one of the guards and gets his gun, shooting him before taking the other hostage. He and Tigh start making their way to a secondary hanger deck that is never used.

Meanwhile, Starbuck spies civilians raiding arms lockers and tries to get through to Adama but is unsuccessful. Arming herself, she rescues Lee who was on his own way to the brig and together they go vigilante through the ship, looking for the President. Of course, they find her in the Admiral’s quarters and give her the short version of what’s happening. This is all enough to snap her out of her ‘give up and die’ attitude and she tells them she knows how to fix the communications problem. Heading down to Baltar’s happy harem, she uses the device he’d been using to send out a message to the fleet. Gaeta finds the frequency and shuts her down, but the fleet now knows what’s happening.

At the same hanger deck Bill and Tigh made it to with Lee and Kara, Laura is waiting at the foot of a raptor, about to be shuttled to safety. When Bill makes eye contact with her, he marches right to her, takes her in his arms and kisses her desperately. It’s a kiss that means ‘we may not ever see each other again’ and it’s beautiful and well done – and completely out in the open. Lee, Kara, Tyrol, an Eight, Baltar and Tigh, all avert their eyes politely until the kiss is over. Hesitantly Bill and Laura break apart and their eyes never leave each other as the hatch door closes. Bill’s got tears in his eyes and as a result, I’m bawling like a baby.

After the Raptor is gone, Gaeta’s men storm the hanger deck and when Bill opens fire, they toss in some sort of smoke bomb. The last thing we see is an explosion, before those dreaded words come on screen: ‘To be continued’.

This was more than likely one of the most epic episodes of Battlestar Galactica ever. It seriously ranks up there with ‘Exodus Part 2’ and ‘Valley of Darkness’. It’s a three episode arc, so the intensity isn’t over by any means. What did you think? Why was Tigh surprised at seeing Laura in Bill’s quarters? Wasn’t he the one who had the whole argument with Bill about his feelings clouding his judgment in The Hub? Does anyone think that Gaeta is going to come out of this alive? I’d love to see Laura go completely vigilante – no one fraks with the President’s man! Leave me your Two Cents in the comments below!

  2. What an episode! I feel like not one character is going to be left alive when this is all over. Gah!

And I used to really like Gaeta... in fact, I still have a soft spot in my heart for him, knowing what he went through in the webisode "The Face of the Enemy," but there is NO WAY he is going to survive this. He crossed a line that has no "take-backs." On a side note - it was fascinating to watch how perfectly orchestrated the coup was.

But the one thing that is killing me - that the Agathon family is in such danger! The threat of death has nothing on the threat of hurting children or rape. And, yes, do NOT get in the way of Laura... she'll burn you alive!

  3. Oh, I agree, I'd LOVE to see Laura go completely vigilante!

It's hard to see Gaeta making it out of this alive. I guess I need to watch the webisodes, according to what everyone's saying, because he's just changed so much.
