  1. 1. Hard to top Stevie Wonder.

    2. When Samuel Jackson started talking about Rosa Parks, am I the only one who thought it was going to end with, "And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you?"

    3. Could have done without the first two Garth Brooks songs. Who was it that forgot that "American Pie" was about a fatal plane crash?

    4. Whoever contacted Garth Brooks and Shakira: What part of "Play to your Strengths" don't you understand? If you book a country act, let him play country music.

    5. John Legend added a nice touch to the James Taylor tune. But HBO never identified the two other singers. Does anyone know who they were? I think Graig Nettles was onstage too, but I could be wrong about that.

    6. Jamie Foxx will be cast in Obama: The Movie. Nice job.

    7. No offense to Beyonce, but nobody has ever or will ever sing "America the Beautiful" like Ray Charles. He was the only person I've ever heard who put joy and enthusiasm into patriotic music.

    8. Jack Black? Really? No, seriously...Jack Black?

    9. Jon Bon Jovi sings Sam Cooke... Hmmm... Have to say, he did better than expected, but Sam Cooke wrote "A Change is Gonna Come" as a counterpoint to "Blowin' in the Wind," so it's always a little weird for me to see a white guy sing it. Still, I've heard worse interpretations.

    10. Thanks to Usher for not feeling the need to embellish the vocal line for "Higher Ground." If it ain't broke...
