So the unwritten rule in the PB universe seems to be this: Unless you see someone take their last breath before your eyes, do not assume they are actually dead. The episode ends, and I’m logging all the characters in my head, thinking who might be ripe to reintroduce themselves to Michael and Linc.

Silly me…The previews give away one secret, and I fall for it, thinking that’s all they have up their sleeves. Last week we find that Michael and Linc’s mother was working for the Company. As this episode opens, the rumor is that she may still be alive. It’s a great bit of cat and mouse. The Company holds Michael in lockdown as a psychiatrist tells him his mother is alive and well. He shows him pictures and relates incidents from his life, but are they coming from Company surveillance or from true memories? Even after Michael rigs a water heater and escapes, it’s still a maybe, a question hanging in the air as Sara rescues him, following a tip from Lisa.

Meanwhile, as the new team of Linc, Gretchen, Self and Bagwell (freshly shaven and scrubbed) follows the middleman to Miami, all signs point to an inside job. Allegiances almost tear the team apart. Bagwell is revealed as the General’s mole, Self and Bagwell maneuver themselves as leaders, and Gretchen attempts to seduce Linc, which gets her nowhere. (Come on, Linc! Let her try a little more persuasion! Did something happen in the Fox River showers?) As they start to self-destruct, Mahone appears just in time to pull everyone together.

Concluding that the buyer is trying to move Scylla by boat, the team tracks the middleman to the harbor. Gretchen, who had been one step ahead, meets with him first and sets up a sellout of the team. But instead of double crossing them, she takes out the middleman’s team, catching a bullet an bleeding on the sidewalk as the team scatters and sirens draw closer.

Bagwell swipes the middleman’s cell phone, and when it rings, Linc is there to answer it. He threatens the caller, vowing to find them. As the call ends, someone asks the woman, “Who was that?” She replies, “My son. Lincoln.” Even if you do see the twist coming, it’s a great ride to get there. Once again, the writers set up Lisa as the Company tr aitor, especially when she kidnaps Sara to give her the intel on Michael.

So not only is Mama still alive and on the Company’s payroll, but she also has Scylla in her possession as the first portion of the season closes. Tune in when Spring gets here, when Linc and Michael race each other to retrieve Scylla.

So…Did you see this coming? Do you think anyone else might be resurfacing? Drop your ideas in the comments or drop me a line at: tom@thetwocents.com .
