Tim Riggins got a letter of interest from a college. For real. This astounding revelation comes when Billy storms into Tim’s room without knocking holding the letter. The only thing more amazing than Tim getting in to college is Billy not knocking. Your brother is Tim Riggins – he probably hasn’t been in a bedroom alone since grade 6 and you don’t knock? Lyla was there and completely forgot about the belt buckle on Tim’s pants (which she was trying to undo) and wrote a letter back to the college on Tim’s behalf.

Tim Riggins got a letter of interest from a college. For real. This astounding revelation comes when Billy storms into Tim’s room without knocking holding the letter. Meanwhile in the land of Lyla and Tim, Buddy Garrity has decided to inform his daughter that Time is “White Trash” and she deserves better. Someone needs to remind Buddy that working at a car dealership, frying your steaks in real butter and sleeping with your secretary while holding on to your mediocre high school football career is also pretty white trash. And way lamer than Tim Riggins’ beer and girls fetish.

In an effort to help Tim with college and prove to her daddy that Tim ain’t no white trash, Lyla brings Tim to a dinner with the McCoy’s (the parents of the hot new quarterback). Tim does as well as you’d expect Tim to do at a formal fancy dinner. He orders Squab (pigeon) rare. Lyla is pissed and it’s a bit ridiculous for her to expect so much of him. They fight, insinuate they should break up and Tim goes home to find Tyra waiting for her sister to finish stooping Billy. Tim and Tyra chat and its obvious once again how compatible they are, but then Lyla walks in and all the lovely angst and bad Boy/Good Girl chemistry is in full effect. And surprisingly, Lyla doesn’t freak when she finds Time in his underwear sitting with Tyra.

Julie scored a job at Appleby’s and is assaulted by a pile of cardboard boxes in the alley. Matt Saracen is the person kicking the boxes. He tells Julie that his Grandma won’t take her high blood pressure meds and Matt needs to be her legal guardian but his dad isn’t around to sign the papers. Matt’s storyline is compelling but the possible reunion of Matt and Julie is way more compelling. And then Matt does something no one sees coming – he borrows Landry’s car and the next thing we know he’s talking to his mom and asking her to sign his emancipation papers so he can take custody of his grandma.

After dealing with his mom, Matt drives by Appleby’s and picks up Julie after her shift and drives her home and she takes him to a neighbor’s and shows him the car she’s saving up to buy. It’s a Celica but Julie thinks it’s “beautiful”. What’s really beautiful is the moment between Matt and Julie. This is the grown up 2.0 version of Matt & Julie. It’s lovely.

Wow. Who even knew he had a mom. I assumed as was dead. Turns out she’s worse than dead, she’s a woman who abandoned her child. Boo. When he shows up at her door she looks like she never even knew she popped a kid out let alone that he was alive. Weird. She signs the papers and acts like she cares about him, but he’s not buying it and neither am I.

Tyra and Landry work together to get Tyra elected to the student council. The teacher-liaison doesn’t think Tyra is worthy of being nominated and makes no effort to help her when her posters are vandalized. Tyra enlists the help of her sister and a few other strippers to help hand out buttons and such at the school. The teacher freaks and tries to get her suspended. Tami defends her and doesn’t suspend her but Tyra keeps up the Trash Campaign. She wins the election and looses Mrs. T’s respect.
Tami is battling the entire universe as principal. She took the money the booster squad raised for a Jumbotron and re-allocated it into the academics at Dillon. In an effort to keep Texas a sad, red neck stereotype, the Mayor of Dillon does all but threaten Tami’s physical wellbeing in an effort to get the money back. Eric won’t talk to her about the issue either, because hello, it’s football. And Coach Taylor wants the jumbotron even if husband Eric Taylor understands his wife’s motivations.

Speaking of Coach T, he’s training Smash in his spare time and calling every school the state of Texas trying to find anyone who will give the kid a scholarship. No one is biting and it’s a good thing. Smash isn’t playing the way he used to – not because he can’t but because he won’t. He’s scared but even he doesn’t understand why. So Coach T gets not just Riggins or Saracen, he gets the entire Dillon squad to help Smash through his fear. It works and the old Smash – minus the super annoying ego – is back and better than ever! Coach Taylor ends up getting Smash a walk-on with Texas A&M and the cheers and happiness from his family brought tears to my eyes. For the first time in 3 seasons I give a crap about Smash Williams.

    Best Dialogue this Friday Night
Lyla: I didn’t know you googled.
Tim: I’m not retarded. I google.
Lyla: Yeah I know but sometimes you pretend you are.

Do you think Tami made the right decision about the Jumbotron?
Do you want Julie and Matt back together?
