  1. Interesting opening this week…They flipped the entire opening from the pilot episode. As Jax rides into town, it’s daylight rather than night, we see a white bird rather than a crow, and instead of feeding on road kill, it’s perched comfortably on a road sign.

Guilt and regret run deep throughout the episode in the wake of Donna’s murder. Buying the story about the Niners being behind it, Piney rides up to Oakland looking for revenge. Jax follows him, and listens to gang leader LeRoy’s argument that they had nothing to do with it. He returns for a face-to-face meeting with Clay, who denies involvement.

Feeling guilty and used by Stahl, Hale lets Jax know about the setup. The Sons use their connections to find out the location of the safe house where the witness is kept. Clay advocates taking out the witness so Bobby and Opey can walk, but nobody knows the witness is a 17 year old girl. When they storm the safe house, everyone hesitates but Tig. Luckily, Jax enters just in time to stop him from pulling the trigger. He threatens the girl and gives her enough cash to get out of California. He and Tig duke it out in the abandoned safe house once the rest of the gang leaves.

Tara can’t shake the guilt over Jax killing Kohn. She is thinking about returning to Chicago, which leads Jax to pick up the thread that Stahl left in his mind: Tara only came to Charming so that Jax could do her dirty work.

Gemma finds the charred copy of John Teller’s manuscript and looks to Clay to rein in Jax. We find out that Piney has another copy of the manuscript.

All in all, this has been a progressively solid first season. Like I said before, once the immense shadow of The Shield is gone next season, it’s going to be interesting to see how this show develops. Even with one night’s difference, it was like going from heavy metal to slow blues. Even if you like both kinds of music, it’s tough to adjust sometimes. Next year will be a clean slate.

So there’s my two cents…What did you think? Buy me a beer and let’s talk about it. Or drop your comments below. You can also drop me a line at: tom@thetwocents.com .

  2. I wish Tig had taken a bigger beating for his lack of respect toward Jax, but I have a feeling that there will be more to come.
