Tough to top last week’s episode. The commercials promoting the twists don’t help any either, since I’m trying to figure them out while I’m watching the story unfold. But a simple writer’s tip holds true here: Write the ending, and the rest will follow. So Michael’s last line (“Come and get it!”) gives the episode all the punch it needs.

ReplyDeleteSelf makes a call to his boss, Stanton, during which he frames Linc. He grabs Bagwell to get to Gretchen. Using the info TrishAnne got for him, they find Gretchen’s sister and child to leverage against her. She helps them find a new buyer, but Michael removed a key chip from Scylla to make it unusable, so the deal falls through. It’s all a nice build to that line, when Self finally calls Michael.
Before that, in the wake of Self’s double-cross, the General turns on one of his close allies, leaving Lisa nervous about his control issues. Stanton and Senator Dallo try to contain the embarrassment that Self provided. Michael sends away Sara, Sucre and Mahone before the meeting. Stanton decides it’s easier to keep things quiet by killing everyone involved, but he’s double-crossed by a Federal Marshal that had been planted by the General. That Marshal is killed by Sucre, who had doubled back to save Michael.
If all those double-crosses seem like too much, well, you’re right. There is a point where too much happens too fast. In the end, though, it’s the final moments that matter, setting things up for next week’s confrontation. It’s been a while since this show made me upset that there are seven days before the next episode airs. Glad to have the old punch back!
But what’s up with those episode titles this year? Yeesh!
What do you think? Are you looking forward to the showdown? How do you think Gretchen will affect things? Drop your ideas in the comments or drop me a line at: tom@thetwocents.com .
