ReplyDeleteMM is playing Margaret, who’s coming to review the earnings of the gym so Christine and Barb can get new equipment. Barb is apprehensive about “the man”, but Margaret turns out to be friendly-until they let slip they’re married. (This was written long before Election Day) Turns out there’s a “family values” clause, and Margaret is going to have to shut down the gym. She tries to escape down the elevator, but Barb and Christine won’t let her go, earning more than a few comments about traditional marriage.
At their house, Richard and New Christine are in bed. New Christine is crying- and a bit nutty- because of her birth control pills. She decides to go off them and suggests a permanent solution. But not for her, as Richard would like. For him. He’s not totally on board. Meanwhile, Christine, Barb, and Matthew examine the clause Christine ignored completely before. Barb points out that it refers to gays rather than just married, and so it doesn’t apply to them. Matthew is irritated to realize they’re willing to work for a company that’s intolerant, but Christine and Barb are unfazed. Christine goes to tell Margaret, who’s thrilled to realize that her clients’ only sin is immigration fraud, and gives back the gym. Then she kisses Christine on the lips to prove that she’s not gay, either. Christine is rather taken aback by this- and by Margaret flashing her through an open robe.
New Christine leaves a post-op Richard in the care of Matthew. Only it turns out Richard chickened out at the doctor’s office. Before we have time to consider what the writers are foreshadowing,, Christine and Barb arrive. Barb is not altogether convinced Margaret is gay, at least until Christine demonstrates the kiss on her. They both continue to brush off Matthew’s persistence about them working for a homophobic gay woman, and seem even more convinced when they see the shiny new equipment at the gym. But it turns out it’s not as easy to actually sign the contract. After grasping for loopholes, Christine goes to ask Margaret if they can ignore the clause. Margaret says they can’t and claims she isn’t gay, not at all. There are a few great words about love, but now Christine and Barb have no gym. Oh, and Richard had sex with New Christine without being protected by anything. I’m sure that won’t have consequences.
What will (or should) Christine and Barb do now? And, just for the heck of it, how long do you think it’ll be until New Christine gets pregnant? Discuss the episode in comments!
What Old Christine Taught Me This Week:
1. Christine is funnier when you’ve never met her. I’m not sure that’s a good thing.
2. Not reading contracts is bad.
3. “Gay” is not a derogatory word. “Homo”, on the other hand. . .
4. Cleveland has strange ways of being friendly.
5. Fake vasectomies probably won’t work.
