It’s a busy day at the clinic so there are tons of people to choose from as hostages. Jason (the gunman) takes a pregnant woman and her husband, a big guy with migraines, some other professional looking guy, a young guy with scraggly hair, a young girl, Hadley, and of course, House. My first thought: “No way is House getting shot again!” Thankfully, he doesn’t, but there were a couple of close calls.

Jason’s been seen by 16 doctors in 2 years, so he’s just a bit frustrated. House runs as many rudimentary tests as he can while they’re locked in Cuddy’s office. The first round of meds comes in and Jason makes House give a dose to a hostage. Good thing for Jason because it was a tranq. One hostage down. Jason shoots the professional guy in the leg to prove to house he means business.

House manages to page Kutner to get everyone in for a differential. Chase wants no part of it and walks out but the others stay behind to brainstorm. They decide on a treatment and two more hostages are freed in exchange for the drugs. Hadley volunteers to take all the drugs that Jason is going to need because the deal is a hostage has to take a dose first.

Jason wants an x-ray so he lets the pregnant woman go (yay!) and a couple of the others so he can go to radiology. They make a barrel out of him all tied up with him in the middle like a frickin tuna roll so he won’t get shot. Hadley looks like boiled crap, as you would expect since she’s had meds that effect nerves and the heart.

The whole time, House is trying to figure out why Jason is doing what he’s doing. He says he’d rather go to jail than not know what’s wrong with him. House needs the gun to do the CT scan because the gun is screwing up the test. Jason gives up the gun. Hey guess what…it’s not a tumor. Jason is resigned to not knowing what’s wrong with him, but House gives him back his gun. House is just as crazy as Jason.

The next dose of meds shuts down Hadley’s kidneys and doesn’t cure Jason. The last differential comes up with the answer and Jason wants to trade House for the last dose of meds but that means Jason’s going to give the meds to Hadley and it’s going to kill her.

Hadley tries to talk him into trusting her and not killing her. Just as she starts to beg for her life, the swat team blows a hole in the wall. House comes in and asks Hadley why she’s still alive and she says “he didn’t make me take it.”

House pops some Vicodin and he and Jason share a look. A crazy look between two crazy people.

Hadley is on dialysis and looking much better. She decides to participate in the Huntington’s drug trial that Foreman offered her at the top of the episode.

Cuddy looks over her destroyed office. House comes in looking for his cane. House accuses Cuddy of handling things badly because he was a hostage. She says that’s why she can’t be in a relationship with House, but he kind of hints that he’d like to be in one. When she flat out asks him, he says no.

All in all, it was a pretty good episode. I think the extended run time was just an excuse to put in more commercials. Am I right? Leave your thoughts in the comments!

  2. The look between Jason & House at the end ~ House popped his vicodin, looked at Jason & put his hand on his (own) chest taking a deep breath. He was indicating for Jason to do the same & when he did, House knew the meds worked for him & the diagnosis was right (Jason hadn't been able to take a deep breath in two years).

And remind me, if Dr's ever ask "Have you been anywhere tropical?" ~ Florida apparently counts!

I'm just glad they're moving past the whole "13 wants to die because of her Huntington's" drama. Maybe now they can do stories with the other drs!

  3. I loved this episode - even if the whole metaphor 'finding the answer thing' was inserted with the subtley of David E. Kelley, but quite frankly 13 hits Foreman territory for me - just die or go already. I know the producers like her, but quite a lot of people are going 'WHY' - and the poor House/Cameron people have gone into a decline and are weeping and wailing about the whole Cuddy thing.
