Family Guy switches things up a bit this week with one of their split-plotline
episodes. I’ll tackle them one by one otherwise I’d be switching back and forth more than Quagmire at a high-school prom- GIGGITY.
Our first plot revolves around Peter- the episode opens with Peter taking some papers to the CEO at the Pawtucket Beer factory. Peter wanders past the Executive Bathroom (which has apparently always interested him) and sneaks in. He boards a helicopter and flies towards an island a la Jurassic Park (complete with music and all). When Peter finally lands at “Executive Bathroom Island” we see it’s really just a toilet surrounded by jungle, but Peter opines “hmm… this is peaceful”.
The visit to the executive bathroom prompts Peter to begin one of his typical quests- this time to become an executive. Peter, in the midst of having cleaned his office, explains to a shocked boss that he indeed intends to be promoted. His box explains that he shouldn’t feel bad if- based on his past performance- that she doesn’t believe him. Next we see Peter assembling some kind of robot in his office, where he explains to his boss again that it has no emotions and its prime directive is never to hurt humans. Of course, the robot immediately turns around and begins choking Peter and saying “angry, angry, angry”, to which Peter says “oh my god it’s got human emotions, too”.
In his second attempt to impress his boss Peter strolls into her office with a remote control. He quips “see that Budweiser billboard right next to the Children’s Hospital? Watch this!” He presses the button and, of course, the Children’s Hospital blows up!
Peter finally gets his wish to be promoted (in a funny awkward exchange, no less) but HR informs him that all executives require a high school education- but Peter has only completed up through third grade! Of course, Peter goes back to third grade (where, apparently, he has the same teacher).
Back to Peter in the third grade he asks his class mate Omar if he “wants a hurts donut” and Omar says “ok”… Peter then punches him (a third grader) in the face and knocks him out and does the “Peter Laugh”. Despite poor performance, the teacher tells Peter that if he helps their team win the spelling bee coming up that she will pass him- otherwise, if he loses, fail him.
Peter’s first word is “tree” and of course he needs it used in a sentence and then also in a dirty sentence. He gets it right after the dirty sentence (which was really funny). It comes down to Omar and Peter and his final word is ‘Lesbians’. Peter wins! He returns to the Pawtucket Beer Factory to claim his promotion but his boss informs him that, unfortunately, no one forgot that he blew up a childrens hospital that killed a bunch of kids and he’s probably going to prison. Cut to the court room verdict and Peter is sentenced to- wait for it- seven days in prison!
For the second, plotline, Brian agrees to buy a club with Frank Sinatra Jr. Stewie, of course, laughs at Brian and insists that he’ll fail. We see the new club Brian owns but there is only one customer (The Emperor from Star Wars). Stewie says he has a few ideas that could help turn business around. Stewie turns the place into a whole new chic night club called “pLace” which has apparently become the hottest spot in town.
Although Brian is a little upset at first he eventually gets into the groove, gets a new wardrobe, and beings to embrace the new club. Soon, things are going so well, he quips to Frank Sinatra Jr “my god there is nothing that can stop us”. But then Andy Dick kicks down the door ready to party and the club’s participants flee in a panic. Stewie explains that Andy Dick is a club killer and we’re treating to a funny scene with Abraham Lincoln and John Wilkes Booth.
All in all, the nightclub plotline seemed like a way to make up for 3-4 minutes of time they couldn’t fill in the Peter plotline. It was a good episode, but not a great episode. What do you think, readers?
